Looks like liquid under front glass after front panel replacement

I replaced the front panel assembly on this iPad a1474, and after reapplying the front panel to close the device, I noticed a spot that looked like liquid underneath the glass. I turned on the display to check the lcd, and it looked fine. Tapping on the front glass caused discoloration around the spot. Fearing I damaged the lcd, I opened the device back up to find the spot disappear, and the lcd now not distorting when pressed on with a cloth. I cleaned both the lcd and the underside of the front glass and let them dry for a day before reclosing the device, but the spot remains, and moves when pressed around like some kind of liquid pressed between the front panel and the lcd. My only hunch now is that the front panel and lcd are just too close in that spot due to losing some of the foam attached to the lcd during repair, and the contact just looks like liquid.

Edit: Photos of the spot and the spot reacting to pressure on glass

Edit: I think I found the issue, there’s a dent in the body near where the spot showed up, and the give when pressing on the battery was the whole body giving because it’s slightly misshapen. I attached a photo of the dent, but it’s kind of hard to make out.

This could be caused by a “sagging” digitizer or if there is something applying a little bit of upward flexure on the LCD. I would open it up again and insure the LCD is sitting nice a straight through out it’s surface and isn’t curved up. You may want to try another digitizer as well to see if that one is better.

I agree. Either the digitizer is dipping lower in that spot or the LCD is being pushed up. Definitely the LCD coming into contact with the underside of the digitizer.

I think the lcd ins't laying flat. When I take it out I can press down on the battery and it gives a little. Is there any good way to keep it down?

The battery should be held down by a quite a bit of adhesive. Does the battery look like it has inflated, even only a slight amount? The external "skin" should be "tight". If there's any king of air pocket or or gap between the internal battery and the external skin, then the battery may need replacement.

I figured it out, the give is the body not being totally flat, and there's a dent under under where the spot is. I don't know if there's anything I can easily do about this.

Can you provide an image?

Sounds to be along the lines of having an air bubble under a plastic screen protector (very common) but different.

More clarification (or an image) would help

Excellent, good pictures.

It looks JUST like an air bubble or some foreign oil left from a spitty machine when it was joined together, but like you stated, you cleaned the screen - and well enough that it shouldn't be there.

It doesn't appear to be pressure from behind, like an expanded battery, or a rogue speck of something, because of the way it reacts when pushed down.

I'm getting the sinking feeling that it's because of what you stated, the 'lost foam' - the contact point could be the closest distortion nuance in the glass/lcd

Short of replacing it again -Perhaps there is a way to get creative with something to mimic the missing material? Otherwise, I feel you, it's fReakin right where you can see it all the time!
