home button stopped working 7 days after a front camera flex repair.

I replaced the front camera flex cable on my iphone now my home button is not responding. is there a way to diagnose why the home button has stopped functioning apple is not an option and I refuse to have them "repair" anything for me. I know that you can replace the home button due to software locks. I have seen rumors of a device that can flash the chips on a home button to work with a logic board but I cant seem to find it. any recommendations are great!

If it worked and then randomly stopped working it might have just come loose and needs to be re-seated. On most iPhones there are two connections - the first on the back of the glass right next to the button itself, and the second to the motherboard.

If you know what you're doing it's easy enough (minus the adhesive on the 6s and above) to do. If you don't then I'd see what the shop would charge to troubleshoot it. Just remember that if they have to replace the home button (5s and above) you will lose your fingerprint unlock ability, and on a 7 and above it might be worse than that (https://ifixit.org/blog/9020/no-fix-ipho...)

If the button is damaged beyond repair, only Apple can replace at this time, by replacing a screen assembly complete with home button; they use a machine connected to their servers to sync the new home button with the logic board.

No third party equipment can do this yet. If it is to be found, it would be extremely expensive at the moment.

Now regarding what may have caused your home button to fail:

- You may have knicked the cable of the home button itself while separating the screen from the frame;

- Or partially torn the home button extension flex cable running through the screen;

- Or pinched that flex cable extension between the screen assembly and the frame when reassembling the screen to the frame;

- Or improperly seating that same cable extension onto the board.

Depending on the cause, it may be repairable by reseating the connector; or repairing the home button cable - you’ll need a highly skilled microsoldering technician. Or by replacing the full screen assembly and transferring the home button and front cam - you may achieve that same last result by replacing the back panel of the screen (instead of the whole screen) since that part has the home button extension cable running through it, but replacing it would be tricky.

Hi. I experienced a similar issue today. An iPhone 7+ came to me with a replacement none-original LCD and front camera flex. The home button was not clicking but the touch ID was still working. Also every time you tried to make a call the phone was restarting. Replacing the front camera resolved all the above issues. Try disconnecting the front camera first before playing with the home button as it is Unique (Unreplacible) and almost impossible to get disconnected on it's own on this model unless the phone was liquid damaged or the screen cable got cut. Good Luck!
