Hi @sasres

Just verifying that the screen works when you go to login (splash screen and Windows startup screen etc and then it goes black after login, is this correct?

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and check its display is OK or not

What OS is installed?

If you have Win 10 installed try starting the laptop in safe mode and check what the laptop's display is like.

I had the same problem. Tried restarting in safe mode, but the computer shut off again. I tried resetting windows 10, but the laptop shut down before completing the analysis. I was away for about 10 days and I left the laptop unplugged. Once I plugged it back in, I have been able to use it. I'm suspecting a battery problem may have been the cause. So far it hasn't shut off after two or three hours use.

Hi @mpsoha ,

If the screen is just a dark screen, how can you can "see" what you are doing?

Hello @sasres !

It looks like a software related issue. I will recommend you to boot your machine into recovery mode and try to restore your system from its last restore point.

For example, by default windows 10 automatically creates a restore point before you make any changes to the system settings or install or uninstall a program.

Just google how to boot your machine into the recovery. I can suggest you to disrupt the boot process as many times as you can (for example - turning off the machine forcibly while it loading the system). This should bring up the recovery window.

Then you get to the recovery (Windows 10) you’ll see a blue screen - Select Troubleshoot - Advanced options - System restore. You’ll see the list of available restore points. Look at the dates and choose the point when the system was functioning normally and try to restore.

If your Lenovo IdeaPad shows a black screen on startup before reaching the desktop, see the Lenovo IdeaPad U530 Touch Shows Black Screen on Startup problem page for possible causes and solutions.
