Dual SSDs Disk Utility Configuration

I've been unable to update the OS to High Sierra for the past year as a result of the dual SSDs being configured in AppleRaid vs. APFS.

I've moved all of my data off of the system and erased both drives, defaulting them into Mac OS Extended (Journaled) configs, and would now like to configure the drives to work with High Sierra or return them to their factory default.

Can someone please share how to configure the drives so that they work in unison on the OS and are able to support High Sierra?

You’ll need to wait for the next release of MacOS Mojave (10.14) from what I understand it will fix APFS for RAID & Fusion Drive support.

If your game get the developer release to see if it works. Just make sure you’ve got a good backup just in case!

@mayer - APFS still has issues on SATA based systems due to how the file system works vs HFS+.

Think of it this way s way having a single threaded vs a multi-threaded app. A single threaded app starts a process and completes the single action, unlike a multi-threaded app which can support multiple actions concurrently. This is the same kind of issue here.

So if the RAID box used PCIe/NVMe M.2 blades then there is no issue! If you have a SATA RAID box then you’ll can hit this process concurrency problem within APFS.

My own Mac Min is still running Sierra and will likely stay with it with its RAID box. Just not worth the risks and performance issues it would face under APFS.

Apple did fix Fusion Drive support under APFS. Still not a lover of Fusion Drives, as a dual dive config with a beefy blade SSD is still smarter! While I understand why people get the config it’s too short sided.

I always recommend getting the SSD only config first then when you need the space upgrade the system with a SATA drive. So much easier and cheaper!
