my landline AT&T phone does not ring - the person calling has to leave a message

The volume is at 6 and does ring on the base - it just suddenly stopped ringing when someone calls a couple of days ago

If there's a separate "ringer" in the handset then that's where I'd go first. If it rings through the handset speaker then it's likely a control board problem.

Sorry to ask an obvious question but have you set the ringer volume? Was it working and then stopped?

Check the handset volume too. Here's the manual page.
