Getting around TouchID pairing

Well, here's the story.

I was cleaning the car and I put my iphone on top of the hood of my dad's work car. he went shopping using it since I was cleaning the main car and I forgot my phone was on it. eventually I finish and look for my phone. find my iphone locates it down the street, we get it and it is... err... obliterated but was making the beeping sound find my iphone makes, so its working.

Long story short, my iphone 5s got run over by a few cars, still working somehow.

So now heres the issue, the screen is useless, I got a spare and I may get the rest of the display assembly. touchID button is missing and ripped off the cable...

So, If I were to jailbreak the phone, could I get around touchID being disabled? Or what about getting the original cable soldered to a new home button?

Thanks.

(Moral of the story: iPhone 5s is incredibly durable.)

I also don't have a phone. I got the data off it, at least.

@captainsnowball I think the best person to answer that is the resident iPhone guru @refectio It is my understanding that it cannot be done, but I do not know enough about it. You need the real experts.

What real security is gained by Apple pairing the Touch ID? It's ridiculous.

@captainsnowball This is just part of the continuing program to eliminate 3rd party repairs and repairmen so Apple can do "Certified Repairs" and make all the money and put people like us out of business.

In some cases, the Home Button Flex cable can be repaired but that really depends on where it tore. Some techs in China do this but I don't know who does this stateside. Take a look at this video to see how it is done. To be honest, Touch ID on an iPhone 5S is probably not worth spending money on but that is ultimately your decision to make.

I agree that to begin with, the amount of time needed to repair a non-critical Touch ID function on a 5s is not worth it. Besides, I wouldn't spend too much on an iPhone that was ran over. It is prone to more failures soon in the future.

Wasn't there something about error 51 or something on restores? Amazingly this thing works great except for the fact that the screen and Touch ID is gone. I want to got all the life out of this.

But again, this seems like a software side thing. If i were to jailbreak it, could I get around this?

さんによる

This is beyond iOS level software, so not possible as of now.

Literally zero possibility as of now, no real progress made for so many years.

The idea of pairing it up for security is that the fingerprint data from the Touch ID to the CPU travels over a visible SPI bus that can be tapped by hardware, or even read/write by software if hackers are able to inject the right address via DMA. Therefor it is necessary to implement end-to-end encryption and per-device/per-session keys. Apple did that by writing the per-device key directly into the hardware and negotiate a per-session key based on the per-device key.

There ARE more repair friendly cryptography implementations, however the increased complexity may increase the cost of the sensor chip. Apple might be trying to cheap out or being a jacksss this time.

so what's the point of preventing injection of fake fingerprint image, if it is much simpler to make a fake rubber fingerprint from a drinking glass, or a door handle.

@Someone fromjapan it's easy to get an optical image, but not so easy to get a capacitive image, unless you can work out the capacitive image from optical ones alone.
