Why is my ABS locking up

When my ABS system is connected and my abs fuse is in I can’t go over 5 mph without it locking up, my abs light is on with a wrench symbol. What would cause this? If I disconnect the abs and take the fuse out the vehicle drives fine.

This just happened on my 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0 4x4. My abs, traction control, and wrench lights came on. I stopped but when I tried to drive the 4x4 light came on and the brakes were engaged by themselves. The only code my car was throwing was C1233…left front wheel speed sensor imput signal missing. I changed the abs sensor and it didn't fix it. It ended up being the hub.

What is a hub?

Your hub? Do you mean the wheel bearing? I just changed 3abs sensors and my 06 Ford explorer is doing the exact same thing. But the wheel bearing was replaced by the dealership before I replaced the sensor. So it's new, but that is the sensor causing the trouble. I would like to know why this is happening

It is possible that you have a sensor that is faulted out or the abs module is bad and needs replaced. If you remove the fuse, you cut the power to the abs system which will not make the abs system in use when you need to break hard. My best opionion because this is part of a safety system for a vehicle, you need to take it to your local Ford repair shop and have them to run a diagnostic on it.

I found this from another forum from Ford. This might help you out. Just remember, you will still have brakes, just no ABS when you have to brake hard.

There is a pinpoint test in there that might help you figuring it out.

I changed the entire hub assembly. It was under $100. I put a good one in by Timken. It came with a brand new ABS sensor too. It fixed the problem immediately.
