When replacing the secondary fan, must the PC card cage be removed?

The repair guide for replacing the 867MHz TiBook's secondary fan includes steps (32 & 33) for removal of the PC card cage. The PC Card cage is located on the opposite side of the logic board relative to the fan location. For the life of me, I am unable to determine why this step is necessary in the course of installing a new secondary fan. Is this a leftover (i.e. copy & paste?) from a different but related repair guide for this Powerbook model?

Side note: The repair guide specifies that a 4mm nut driver is required, but its only use is to assist in the removal of the PC Card cage.

Any clarification or assistance would be appreciated.

Most repair guides are written by people that write repair guides not people who fix computers for a living. Sometimes extraneous steps are inserted. These steps are slowly corrected by those actually doing the repairs. Also there are variations within the same Models that may not get noted. So when doing a correction to a guide please note the exact model you are working on. YOU get to be part of the solution ;-)

Thanks for the prompt reply to my initial query. It is premature for me to make a correction, but the time is nearing that I WILL do the fan replacement procedure, at which time, I will be very happy to do so as needed. I am just doing my background prep work for the job. Hopefully, the required part(s) and tools will arrive soon so I may proceed.

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 Titanium 867Mhz model. The repair guide I am using is for the Powerbook G4 Titanium DVI, which is supposed to encompass these iterations: Model A1001 or A1025 / 667, 800, 867, or 1.0 GHz G4 processor. During the process of secondary fan replacement, I will note any differences and submit them. Thanks again!

This is so true.

I have spent over 20 years repairing Apple kit (authorised engineer) and always swore at the designers when dismantling a unit!

Now retired, and smile at memories.
