I need to change the license plate light bulbs, however I cannot remove the plastic cover. It appears that I have to remove many other parts. The owners manual does not show how to do this.

Open the Equinox's rear hatch. If you have an assistant who can hold the hatch in the half-open position, this task will be easier.

Remove the two screws from the lens cover of the lamp you need to replace, and remove the cover. The cover might be stuck to the rubber seal, requiring you to gently pry it off.

Pull the burned out bulb straight out of the socket, and replace it with a replacement bulb.

Replace the lens cover and insert the screws. Do not tighten the screws excessively or you may crack the cover

How far in the door did it go? You might use a wire to fish for it, otherwise you may have to remove the inside panel.

Carry it to AutoZone, buy the bulbs, and they'll install the for free.

This is the easiest method, a little tight working area but it can be done. Took it to Auto Zone, their answer was that I would have to take it to the dealership. Only way is to remove the interior cover and pull the bulbs out and then place it back inside. Said it would cost around $75. Took it to American Lube, guy did the above method and had them replaced in about 5 minutes. No charge but I gave him something for helping me out.

When you pull off the clear plastic lens you will probably tear the gasket. Make a new gasket with some gasket material and re-install. You can also use a thin coat of silicon.

Put a little black electrical tape on the bulb and leave a “tail” on it to grasp with needle pliers to push bulb in, then pull tape off.
