LED suddenly stopped working after only a yr. and a half?

The LED on my daughter's 1 1/2 yr. old HP Mini suddenly stopped working. Tried hard re-boot but no luck. CPU, fan, etc. seem to be working OK but no display. Would hooking up to external display help diagnose? if so, how do I connect?

It is my understanding that the Mini 1000 has an external VGA port. Though the notebook has a VGA monitor output, it uses a small custom connector, so you’ll need to purchase an optional adapter cable to use an external monitor. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keyword... has the cable you would need, hope that helps and good luck to you.

+ good but is there a way he can zap the PRAM, move the display or boot in Target mode. Please excuse my PC ignorance, I'm a Mac Man.

Thank you Sir :-) with a "normal" PC I would recommend to remove the RAM and to listen to the error code on boot up to make sure that the CPU is working and then replace the memory and try to get in the BIOS. But HP/Compaq netbooks are a little bit more finicky with a lot or proprietary hardware architecture. Since the fan on this particular machine boots up and the LCD was previously replaced I would check with an external monitor to verify the fault to be the display. Just to bad that even the VGA connector is proprietary and does not utilize a normal D connector...

My problem is with a 2 year old HP Notebook 2000, close enough I hope. When connected to my Samsung smart tv the notebook works just fine but the notebook screen when by itself is very dim. How does this help in repairing the notebook and what's next?

geduffy sound slike you are either having a bacjklight problem on your motherboard or a bad LCD panel backlight. The panel is easier to repalce than trying to find a schematic for your logicboard to hunt down a failed component. I'd start with the panel.
