Battery replaced with a new one but still not showing a full charge?

My iPod Nano 5th generation was not turning on so I took it to a 3rd party vendor to get it fixed. They replaced the battery for a new one. Now, when I charge it for a long time (over 24 hours), it stays on when it's unplugged but it's only showing a charge of between 25-50% so it's not staying fully charged.

What's the deal? Is it unfixable?

Are you using it with a Mac or PC?

I am using it with a PC. But I have tried charging it several different places...in two spots with wall adapters and on the computer.

I'd give the battery a few cycles... charge it as much as it will go and then drain it until the device turns off a few times...

Thanks Alex. I might try that but not sure that will work. I just didn't want to have to take it to the 3rd party vendor again. I called them and they told me to bring it back (they have a 90 day policy to where they will refund if they can't fix it). Didn't really want to have to take it back there again but not sure your option will work. I can at least give it a shot though.

So update: I took it back to the 3rd party vendor. They just emailed me saying it's "unrepairable". I called them and they said the guy that made the note isn't around so they couldn't give me more information than that. Just frustrated...

@mayer the OP can use 3uTools (www.3u.com). However, in my experience iPods do not display battery information. Haven't tried a nano per se so it could be different.

For the OP: As for the "I don't understand why this place wouldn't just replace the logic board and try it?"... most shops will not have spare nano boards laying around. iPhones yes but not iPods. There are no schematics available for the nano and trying to do board level work is nothing more than guess work without them. Besides, just how much money are you willing to spend on this device?

Brett, doing a micro-soldering repair for a charging problem could cost anywhere from 100$ to 200$. Some may charge less but this is the range you will pay with reputable shops. If you are willing to put down that kind of money, plus shipping, on an iPod Nano then start searching for micro-soldering repair shops that will work on this. You can check out my profile or search this forum as there are several experienced micro-solderers that are frequent contributors.

Truth be told, I just looked at the local Buy-Sell site (Kijiji -> like Craigslist) and I can pick up an 8GB Nano for 60$ CAD and a 16GB for 100$ CAD. In USD, that would be about 30% less. Also take a look at this eBay listing (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4...).

So you can keep bumping your question but at the end of the day, there is no other answer. You pay >100$ to maybe have it repaired or you buy a new one.
