What does the antenna do next to the battery?

Hi, I have broke the gold antenna next to the battery socket near the bottom of the phone and I can't figure out what it is for because my phone seems to be working without any issues. Does anyone know what it does?

1 st : phone had less bars

2 nd : inability to connect to LTE

3 rd : dropping calls
