How do I solve kernel panic?

my 15" powerbook displays a black prompt rectangle with several languages instructing the user to restart the machine everytime you try to boot it up. the power cable turns from green to orange when this prompt appears. how can i fix this? i read somewhere that what i am experiencing is referred to as kernel panic.

Yes, it's a kernel panic. Start your machine up from a system installation disk by inserting disk and restarting holding down the "C" key. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities -> Disk Utility. Repair your hard drive and keep doing so until it runs clear. If the hard drive will not repair, come back and we'll tell you how to replace it.

My laptop came as a gift from abroad(I am in an African country called Kenya) and it didn't have any installation disk. i have no idea what version had been originally installed. my specs are model A1106,powerbook G4 15" 1.67GHz.

Nice gift! Your machine will run 10.5.8. Without a disk you will have to find someone else with a Mac. You can try to boot it in Target Mode via a firewire cable. Hold the "T" key down while booting. Then use the Disk Utility on the other Mac to repair it.
