Mass air flow sensor problems

My mass air flow sensor keeps getting wet and I can not figure out why. I thought it was because it was located on the bottom of the car but I dont think that is the case. Im wondering if it may have to do with the red and yellow round piece near it any help would be appreicated.

When you say it keeps getting wet, what do you mean? Are the internal workings of the MAF sensor getting wet and giving bad info to the computer, or is the portion outside of the air intake system getting wet and causing issues in the wiring? A picture of the "red and yellow round piece" and the surrounding area might also help.

This box is part of the air intake I believe and I was told it was full of water. It seeems like the red and yellow piece measures how much water is in there. All of this leads down into to spot where the MAF is housed. Every time I take my MAF sensor out it is wet and the one I just replaced was rusted because it was wet for so long.

that little red and yellow piece is actually the air filter meter it tells you if there's an airflow restriction it has nothing to do with water

I’m sorry to jump on this thread so long after it closed but I have a 2007 Focus cc and I can’t find the maf sensor anywhere … it’s definitely not at the top between the air filter and the manifold .. I notice you said your was at the bottom I don’t suppose you could help me locate it ?! Also I’m being told that perhaps my car doesn’t even have a maf sensor .. but the part I brought was based on my reg number .. is your car diesel or petrol ?

Your MAF sensor is getting wet because there is water in the intake box. There shouldn't be water in there. Somehow the box has gotten plugged with debris. There should be a hole where air is drawn into the box. This is should be low enough for any water to drain out. You will need to determine how the water is getting in to the filter box and what is making it build up in there. The red and yellow piece measures air restriction. It should show green. It also has a reset button; push to reset. Get the water situation cleared up and the MAF will stop getting wet. It should never get wet. This will cause it to read incorrectly and will effect the way the computer adjusts the air/fuel mixture. Fix your water problem and it will run properly. You'll need another MAF sensor; the one you have is ruined if it got wet.

Could the hole be below the red and yellow piece? It looks like there is something there. I would like to fix the water issue before I put in a new sensor. where does the water come from? Thank you for your help I think I can go in the right direction now.

I am assuming the water is splashing up from the road when you drive or something similar. The hole could be anywhere, but your real problem is the fact that it is not draining. The drain hole for the intake box must be clogged. You need to clear that drain or drill a new hole near the bottom somewhere. If the water doesn't build up, you will have no problems.
