USB Inductive Charger Pins 2 & 3.

My little dog found the 5’ charging cord hanging off the table as something to chew on. Now it’s 3’ long. I simply put another USB connector on the end. What seemed odd to me was wires on pin 2 on & 3 of the connector. These pins are or - and + data. Pin 1 is Vcc & pin 4 is found.

Anyone know what the data wires are used for?

Here’s a pic of the USB connector. I noted on the other end had all 4 wires connected.

Hi there,

You can put a new USB Type A connector on there.

They are arranged as the following (1) VCC (2) D- (3)D+ (4)GND.

(optional but recommended: connect the cable shield to the connector shell of the new connector)

The Data lines are bing used to see what type of charger it is. That also allows is to see how much current it can pull from the charger.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks. Just Googled USB chargers & see 4 wires are common for different applications.

Replaced the connector a few days ago & it seemed odd to see the data wires connected & thought I’d share what I found & ask the question.

Forgot to post the pic in my original post.

Connected the two unsheathed stranded wires to pin 4 as they were on the original connector.

Actually prefer the shorter 30” charger to the longer one. A 12” length might actually be better for my need.

What I can tell you is the charging cord is not just a dumb inductive coil. Here's a screenshot of the device as seen within the system profiler services:

So the data connection is used within the puck to tell the system what it is. It also teases us with a possible data connection mmm.... ;-}
