i've seen a few of these repair manuals and they say to be carefull when moving the screen not to break the cables, but when i look up the parts to try and buy them it seems like the cables are attached to the new digitizer and lcd. if that's the case and you're replacing the screen anyway wouldn't it be easier to cut the cables? it's just an observation.

You don't want to damage the plugs on the logic board that they plug into, and it's a bad idea to destroy any part, new or old before you complete your repair. Also, not everyone using the guide is replacing those parts, some are opening the phone to do other repairs.
