Need help identifying display component logic board

Hi,

I bought my daughter a used MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012 a1287 i7 2.9ghz 750gb 8gb ram laptop for her 21st birthday, worked fine when I received it.

Anyway I stored it away ready for the big day. She opened it up, pressed the start button, we heard the chime but nothing appeared on screen. The ebay seller was unhelpful since 'it worked on arrival'

After trying every command prompt available from the internet to get it going we finally opened it up to eventually find a severely corroded possible resistor on the logic board which disintegrated to dust upon trying to give a very light clean. The missing / corroded to dust part is part of the display section of the logic board. The laptop itself runs fine, can even log in using the password I set up and the apple logo on the back of the lid lights up. Can play a DVD and hear it but nothing on screen.

A local repair guy has many generic resistors and capacitors that could possibly fix it if we can identify the part.

Does anyone know what part number or name the corroded missing part circled in the photo attached might be?

The component is C9010, which deals with the PP3V3_LCDVDD_SW_F signal (for picture).

It is a 0.001uf 10% 50V 0402 capacitor. Clean the corrosion, tin the pads and solder the capacitor. You will likely have to run a wire as shown as the blue line in the attached picture. The pad looks like it is possibly missing, but you may be able to recover it.

Personally, I would open a return case (if bought from eBay) or dispute this with the seller in some way, if you are confident the liquid damage was there before you received it.

Hi Reece,

Thanks very much for your response, that's extremely helpful!

I did open a PayPal dispute but since the laptop was bought in advance of my daughter's birthday, after I started it up to see if it worked ok on arrival, I then stored it away in my drawer for more than 30 days. By the time she opened it, so much time had passed that the seller argued that I'd damaged it myself :(

What a joke.

Therefore it was too late for eBay buyer protection and my word against his for PayPal. Never again will I purchase a used laptop.

Anyway, the info you've given me above is great. I'll take it to the repair guy, show him your advice and see if he can get it going. Fingers crossed

Thanks very much again, really appreciate it
