My iMac (A1173, MA199LL/A, EMC 2104) suffers from the zillion vertical colored lines problem, but was not covered by Apple's warranty extension. (Why? who knows?) I would like to replace the display, but these seem hard to find. Does someone know the correct Part Number for this model?

I have replaced my 17" Core2Duo lcd with an lcd from both a G5 isight and a G5 imac. I had to settle for the G5 lcd as the isight lcd had vertical lines, but the isight lcd fit straight into the intel body as the design of the components is identical. They all had the LG philips screens LM171W02 but the intel lcd had a later production month and the letters on the end were different. The troubled lcd's had (TT) (A1) at the end. All you do is swap the support-carraige and the video cable and inverter from your intel lcd onto the G5 lcd. When I peeled back the foil from the G5 lcd which completely covers the G5 lcd back, it had the same part number quoted above and the video cable slot is in the same position on both lcd's so it is a simple swap. Ebay and on gumtree there are regular dead G5's and they go for cheap. It is hit and miss though. I have got a couple, one was isight, that was dead all round, except for the inverter. Just be careful prying the inverter off the lcd support carraige. The glue is strong and you don't want to crack the inverter board. Good luck.
