ccruzz, If I were you, I would clean, degrease power steering rack, hoses, etc to make sure it is deed just the hose leaking. See link from Audizine forum below for instructions on removing power steering hose on Audi A4. 2nd link is for rack removal. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

mayer, I will try to vote more often, a lot of the stuff is sometimes beyond me and would have to research it, before I know if it is a good answer, which could take a lot of time and would not be right to give credit on a totally wrong answer, but I will try as you suggest.

To replace a power steering hose, follow the step-by-step instructions given below:

Step 1 : Open the hood and identify the power steering pump and reservoir.

Step 2: Check the power steering fluid level.

Step 3: Find the power steering pressure and return hoses.

Step 4: Check and inspect power steering hoses for leaks.

Step 5: Now place a drain pan under the pressure hose connection at the steering rack or gearbox.

Step 6: Now remove the hose fittings from the steering rack or gearbox and the power steering pump using a flare nut wrench.

Step 7: Replace it with a new power steering pressure hose, in the same route as the old hose. Don’t over tight the fitting. Make sure that you replace both the steering pressure and return hoses at the same time, if they are of same age and mileage.

Step 8: Now fill the power steering reservoir with the power steering fluid as recommended by the manufacturer.

Step 9: For circulating the power steering fluid, start the engine. Stop and continue refilling the reservoir.

Step 10. Start the engine again and turn the steering wheel from left to right in order to check the steering hoses and the whole system for any leakage.

Step 11: Turn off the engine and inspect the power steering fluid level. Add fluid if necessary, but don’t overfill the reservoir/system.

Step 12: Take a road test to verify the repair.

Replacing a power steering hose is not an easy task as it seems to be. It needs expert mechanics to ensure the quality of the work. To get more information and help, contact Eurobahn BMW MINI Mercedes-Benz Audi of Greensboro.
