Eject Button; Mechanical Failure

I would first like to say that this is an excellent website I thank everyone who has contributed to it. Here is my issue...

thanks to the tutorials on this site I was able to disassemble and repair the Xbox 360.....however, after i reassembled the unit the eject button for the CD/DVD ROM does not work... it appears to be a mechanical not an electrical problem. I have taken it apart a couple times and reinstalled the button but it is still working properly. I was wondering if anyone could give me some direction.. I didn't know if this may be a common problem or if I am missing a spring or something... any insight would be appreciated...thank you

It makes it difficult to diagnose this problem since there could be a number of areas that could have gone wrong. The first area I would check is the button first and ensure that it is not damaged or bent, and is properly positioned in place so that it may press the eject switch located through the bottom left hole of the xbox. Secondly I recommend checking the power cable, in that, the control to open the drive is transfered through this. Make sure that the cable is not damaged and all wires in the connector are completely set in as they can come loose. Finally, if all else fails check the switch to make sure that it is not bent back, broken or loose on the motherboard (or maybe missing). If nothing works then your best bet is that the motherboard or dirve has an issue and a fix for that is a whole different ball game.

Thanks Joel,

I was able to fix the problem... it appears that the button itself was damaged, I didn't realize it because it was my first x-box tear-down. The piece that extends into the hole where the actual button to eject the Rom was to short..... So I applied heat to the nub to make the plastic soft enough to push a sewing needle in it... then cut the needle to the right length...dropped a small ball of solder on the cut end of the needle to round it off so it wouldn't damage the actual button and it has been working fine... I am not sure if something broke/fell off the silver eject button or fell/broke off the CD/DVD ROM button but either way it has been working so far.... thanks for the response

another way is to boil water and place the eject button in it for 20 minutes. then take it out and slowly bend it. becareful not to go to quickly. youll want to hold the button part and the eject arm and slowly bend. it will bend the arm by the button it only needs to move just slightly. i didthis and it worked.

I had this problem too. I saw that there was a metal ledge and a plastic ledge that were on the wrong sides of each other close to the eject button. The plastic had to be realigned in regard to the metal cage. The Xbox could be assembled without fixing this but it was much easier afterwards.
