I lose the signal on and off

The signal keeps coming and going at random. it might stop a minute after the last time or more than an hour, and for a random time.

Sometimes I get the message `check Signal Cable.'

The TV has gone off completely, with only the error messages showing

Hi,

Does it happen on all available channels? Can you use the inbuilt signal strength diagnostic feature (usually found in the menus of most DTV) to check the signal level and quality of the TV signal to see if it is of a borderline low value?

Is the antenna cable / connections in good condition? Is the antenna in good condition and pointing in the correct direction?(Assuming you have an antenna connection)

Thanks, but I still think there is more to it.

I got a new antenna today, and it did enable me to get the signal again, but the TV keeps switching itself on and off at random times.

it only did this since i was away for a week and since then I find the picture disappearing and the shut-down sound, and then it comes on again at any time from immediately to more than an hour later. I can turn it back on with the remote, but it often goes straight off again.

I agree that the original antenna cable was probably damaged, but this is something else by the look of it.

Thanks though

Hi,

Don't know about the TV switching itself off when losing signal but regarding loss of signal in general check the following:

1. Ensure that you have selected the correct antenna input source in the TV. See p.38 of the User Guide.

2. If you are in a weak signal area try enabling the Low Noise Amplifier in the TV. See p.42 of the User Manual.

Here is a link to the User Manual for your TV.

With digital TV the source is either good enough for a picture or not. they don't get fuzzy or noisy like old analog sets. A very marginal signal would have the picture go on and off as you describe. Check the things that Jayeff described and if you use cable then have the company send someone to check the strength.

Some cable boxes/DVRs have a signal checker in the setup menu (Comcast X1 for example is under the Gear icon > Comcast Labs > Signal strength).
