How do I fix my liquid damaged Xbox One?

Two weeks ago, I spilled 2/3 of a cup of washing up liquid into the the top fan of my Xbox One (don't ask how). Since than I have contacted Xbox Support and have read multiple forum threads saying you should let nature take its course (basically wait and see).

Things I have tried:

  • The rice thing
  • Putting it under a fan for 24 hours
  • Tilting it to the left for 18 hours

Although many recommend to teardown your console and clean it from the inside, I personally do not wish to take apart anything like this, and yes I can go to Repair Shops to fix it, but you see I am trying my absolute best not to spend any money because of Project Scorpio (ofcourse).

Please any advice or tips on how to fix my Xbox One will be most indeed helpful. If you wish to recommend me Repair Shops; make sure their in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Thank you, i just spilled a lot of water on my xbox 1 S and was VERY scared and thought all my files would be gone again. I turned my xbox on the side and put a hair dryer on a good warmth.

well try getting a new plug, the graphics will be crap but if you get a new one the fumes of the liquid will not disturb the plug. also put upside down for around 1 hour and then get a hair dryer and dry it. if its dried then leave for a few mins to calm down till its cold like room temperature (what ever).

It should work....

@zohaibkeyani first off "The rice thing" absolutely bogus. Does not do anything other than give you a false sense of doing something. Forget the rice altogether. You will have to disassemble your xbox and clean it properly. Use these guides to work on it. Then clean your parts with high grade (90%+) isopropyl alcohol. That means all parts. Once done reassemble and evaluate for any failures. For further help with this I'd suggest you contact the console guru on here. Yes we all like to spend as little money as possible, but if you do not fix this now it will cost you much more later on.

Hey what about 70% alcohol? Will that work?

@meagercode nope. 70% still has 30% water. It will take much longer to evaporate and will evaporate a disproportionately large percentage of its alcohol, leaving the remainder with less and eventually leaving only water behind.

I'm not sure how much liquid you spilled but you'll likely want to do as @oldturkey03 says and disassemble it and clean it and remove any and all corrosion. Then let it dry 100% and put it back together and try it.

My son spilled a good amount of water onto his. It would turn on then turn right back off at first. I unplugged it shook it out then used the blow dryer on it for about 15 minutes rotating between warm and cool air. Hope this helps, the blow dryer suggestion saved his and I’m sure it will help

yours too, if it doesn’t let it dry out for a couple more days and try again before buying a new one.

thank you so much i was able to save my brother in laws xbox because it fell outside in the snow now it works perfectly fine you also have to make sure the blow dryer is on high

I shut it off blowed in it put it in rice left in under a fan tilted it but it will turn on and then turn off

I took apart my Xbox one and wiped it down bc it was very dusty. The inside did not look like it had any type of water damage, but ever since my son spilled water on it it hasn’t worked. Since I have taken it apart, and done all that what would be something else I could try? If anything.

Was it on when u spilled or have u turned it on since u spilled if so good luck if no fo the blow-dryer thing it works I'm fact Everytime it rains outside I have to pull the cover of my Xbox one and blow dry it on hot for 2 minutes then it works ….done this maybe 20+ times so far so good…..

I'm sure this is in the PCB or a part that Microsoft put on to do this very thing so u would take it to get fixed and spend money….I wish someone would reverse engineer it and figure out a permanent fix

I spilled milkshake on my xbox one since it doesn't want to work again what must I do

As an update ifixit sent me a email that said my answer helped 1.7k people

Cool so I clicked on it and here I am

Any time it gets moist or wet outside I would need to do the blow-dryer thing

Don't use it on high and don't sit in one spot for any amount of time due to risk of melting $@$*

With the laptop I do it on medium for about 3 min

I hold the on button for 40 seconds then try to power on it has to sit with power supply plugged in for about 20 mln and it just comes on by itself

And I don't take it apart just do it through the venting

It is a rog zephyrus

Shut it off, unplug it, and let it dry. Assuming that the liquid didn't get inside the Xbox, dry it off for a few minutes then you can plug it back in. If it gets in the Xbox, clean the system up with Isopropyl Alcohol to avoid corrosion.

I got some water in the fan. I tried drying the top off with a cloth but when I plugged it back up it didn’t work.

That just happened to mine about an hour ago. Maybe more or less. I wasn't here when it happened. My mother and girlfriend we're, though. They immediately turned it upside down. I didn't think to unplug it. Because, I was upset at the time. I just hope it comes back on and nothing happened to it.

My mom was the one who accidentally spilt her coffee, and idk how much. But, she started to cry when I came in. They didn't know what was going to be my reaction, but, they obviously thought it was going to be bad. To their surprise, I took it well.

Mom's offered to buy a new one. Gf did too. But, like I said, I hope it comes back on and no permitting damage to it.

What happened to yours?

i jizzed in mine (dont ask how). Since then, I have contacted Xbox Support and have read multiple forum threads saying you should let nature take its course (basically wait and see).

call 18004myxbox the peoe send you a shippping label thats paid for then zend it to them and if they cant fix it they send you the same xbox refurnished of course but you avoid having to deal with it

My little brother spilled water in the top of my xbox i shook some of the water out then tilt it over and let it drain it’s been in the same spot for 3days and i took it to try and see if it would turn on again and it started making this chirping sound from the back where the power plug is and i dont know what that means…or what to do about it

Since I already answered this question I thought all these new questions were just getting posted to my email for whatever reason

I'm looking for the answer I don't see it so here's the answer take your Xbox apart take a hairdryer don't put it on extremely hot you'll burn something up, blow dry it for 5 minutes put it back together it'll work

Since I live in my vehicle in California ,I have to do this maybe twice a month due to moisture build up in the rainy season

As far as taking your Xbox part just take the outside cover off so you can see the board that's all you have to do

So, my son broke his xbox by spilling milk on the top. I did the tilt thing or wiped it down when it happened. It has now been 5 months later and it is still sitting here. Is it a lost or is it possible to get it fixed?

you Need to unplug it instantly, lay it facing up and point a fan towards it and leave it for a couple hours. I've done this twice on my Xbox series s and it fixed both times. hope it helps.
