The phone get's really hot though especially around the camera. and the phone had full battery before it just turned off and did not turn back on so i dont think its the charging port. I'm having the same issue with my mothers phone. It shut off and wont turn back on. There's no power or indication when charging either.. Tried switching batteries as well. But didn't help. Has anyone answered this question?

Thanks

Try booting in safe mode(instructions in a comment below) to get your phone started again and then get one of the apps mentioned. I'm using Wakelock. I was having all of these problems and it definitely got my phone running again. However, like Farknocker said, the phone has problems booting back up if you do a restart, power down, or your battery dies. If i feel I need to restart my phone i've been booting into safe mode then once restarted I disable safe mode and it reboots normally. Annoying but it'll get me through until the Note 8 comes out.

My phone also cannot turn on. No light no display no sound no vibration. Tried all the methods given here and also methods on youtube but all didn't work. I didn't want to waste money on another phone as I can change new phone next year when I recontract.

The most likely cause in this incidence is that the phone is dead. This happens when apps may be too power consuming or the phone does not have a powerful enough cpu to run the app. This makes the phone overheat and as a result fry the motherboard, leaving it unusable. No matter what you do (changing the battery, using different chargers) the phone will not turn on. Unfortunately for your case you will have to buy a new phone.

Hope this made it a bit clearer,

Nathan

Yeah, this is exactly what happened to my old Samsung Note 4. I'm pretty sure it's because of its age, so don't go beating yourself up, just save some money up and buy a new phone.

さんによる

I almost did this, but I persevered.

I followed Jay D's advice.

--I've delt with this a few times. First try a soft reset. Take the battery out and hold the power button down for 1 minute with the battery out. Put the battery back in and try to power it on. If that doesn't work try hooking it up to your computer with a USB cord and see if your comp can see the phone and turns it on. Last if those 2 fail you can try to start it in safe mode.--

Thanks Jay D @jaydeeeze

This answer is awful. See the "freezer" one below, instead.

I took the battery out held the power button for a minute and the phone is turning back on as I share this info..ty

1.

Put in freezer for 20-30mins make sure battery is in different bag (take battery out of phone ) this is not gimmick works on all Samsung's that work fine when running but have the won't turn on and charge problem

2.

Put on charge for a few minutes then start phone

3.

Install wake lock from google play for running probs and engage partial wake lock in app

This will stop phone from shutting down and your phone will run like new even with all the crappy updates

I did this as phone kept shutting down and restarting

New battery is a must for note 4 older than 2 years

And last but not least for God sake don't let your note 4 run out of charge and turn off they don't like it lol

If this does happen just do step 1 again if having problems starting phone

  1. note 4 won't charge
  2. note 4 just turns off
  3. note 4 shuts down
  4. note 4 crashing
  5. note 4 won't charge
  6. note 4 won't turn on

さんによる

さんによる

This actually worked to a T, I thought I would have to get a new phone. Nope! And I'm now installing the wake lock to keep this from happnening again. Thank you for sharing this trick.

I've delt with this a few times. First try a soft reset. Take the battery out and hold the power button down for 1 minute with the battery out. Put the battery back in and try to power it on. If that doesn't work try hooking it up to your computer with a USB cord and see if your comp can see the phone and turns it on. Last if those 2 fail you can try to start it in safe mode.

Turn off the phone completely.

Press and hold the Power key and the Volume Down key.

When the phone starts to boot, release the Power key but continue holding the Vol Down key until the phone finished restarting.

Safe mode will be displayed at the lower left corner; you may release the Volume Down key now.

If safe mode doesn't work the last thing you can try is recovery mode.

This procedure will attempt to boot the phone up to its barebones. It means that the device will be booted up without loading the usual Android GUI. This is the final step so if it failed, then there’s nothing much you can do about the device but to let the technician sort things out for you.

You don’t need to do anything if the phone booted up in recovery mode successfully. All we wanted to know if it still capable of powering all its components up. Here’s how you boot in recovery…

Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.

Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.

When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.

When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Vol Up key.

If it doesn't turn on in any of these steps you might need a new phone. The number 1 thing is to be 100% sure you have a good charged battery. If you can try it in a diff phone to make sure then do that. I had to buy a wall charger for mine and when it was charged it would turn green. My charge port was messed up and it would tell me I had 100% charge and then the phone would turn off and the charge port would stop working for days a time sometimes. Good luck

If Note4 won’t power on…

Another thing to try:

-Worked on another Note4 with problem, and did work for me...

-Connect it to a FAST Charger (the one that comes with phone)

-Wait for 30 sec or so, then try again (unplug/plug-in), if it fails

(Should see a "Lightning Bolt" icon on the screen... then try to power on)

-Being a “power” problem, this can JERK it back into booting!

-If it gets HOT, then try switching over to a normal USB charger to continue charging

Oh yea, and its a good idea to put in a PARTIALLY charged battery 30-80% so that it DOES go into fast charging mode. Dont put 0 or 100% charged in, if you can help it... (I have 4 Note4's with extra batteries, so I have tons of options). P.S. I now have TWO Note4's with this problem! These samsung guys should be SUED!!! I have a couple of great phones to prove it if anyone does a class action on them!

Hallo, i'm having issues with my note 4 for months now, reseted it two times, new batteries, smooth resetting, now it works with putting it into a freezer, restart and immediatly launch "wake lock app" setting on partial wake lock... otherwise it crashes within 2 minutes! If i root the phone would'nt it resolve everything? ... i love this phone but will get a Note 8.. or 8 plus, but would like to have this one fixed. Is it possible?

okay everyone, I was looking for something completely different and I ran into this forum. After reading all the questions and all the answers I realized the most of you are grasping at straws, lack of knowledge in electronics and basically dealing with guesswork. if you really really know electronics you would understand that it is a miracle that these phones even work! I grew up with tubes with components that are the size of the entire phone so you must understand how much goes into every and each of these phones, the miniaturization that goes on … so start from there and your life would be easier. there are so many things that can go wrong … so the best approach is, eliminate the obvious: if your phone doesn't charge start by replacing the battery with a known good battery if there’s still no indication, more than likely the charging port is defective! think about it it's always in your pocket collecting lint! start by blowing the port with compressed air and see if there's a difference. if you have a microscope you may take a needle small enough to clean it out. secondly if your phone doesn't light up but it gets hot more than likely it's your display, the display could be simply the flex cable not connecting for that you need to take it apart and reconnect press on the motherboard gently in the right places, you need magnification once you're inside the phone do not try to do anything otherwise there are many finger connectors that can easily be compressed and then you'll have bad reception when he put it back together I can go on and on and on but the only way to resolve this it step-by-step. Do not put your phone in the freezer! the fact that it works after the freezer only indicates you have an intermittent connection and so it is a temporary repair but in the long run you are dooming your phone for good! because what you're creating is condensation there are many radio parts that are shielded and the first thing that happens is the metal gets cold and the air trapped underneath the metal becomes condensed and you get corrosion or worse, a short! so do yourself a favor do not put your phone in the freezer you're better off taking a blow dryer and creating a lot of heat around the phone take off all the plastic parts you can, take off your battery take off the Sim and memory cards and blow a lot of hot air all around but still if you have an intermittent problem it maybe one of the flex cables, there are many of them. I would need days to write all the options. I will try to add some more in the future thanks everyone hope this helps …!

Put my Samsung Note Edge in freezer for 10 minutes then hold power button for 1 minute works for me. It gets black screen and will not boot or charge. Now it gets back to normal. Unbeliveable !!! Thanks. !!!!

I also grew up with electronics that used vacuum tubes but that is not helpful at all when you are dealing with micro transistors. The primary problem with these phones and several other galaxy phones is that the on-board memory chip is not well soldered into its socket. After some wear and tear with the phone heating up and cooling down, you start getting intermittent problems caused by the chip having a poor connection to the circuit board. That's why putting it in the freezer works sometimes. Adding a small shim inside the case occasionally resolves the issue for a while, because it puts pressure on the chip to press it into the socket. You end up doing things like this and reinstalling the firmware with Odin which helps for a while. Eventually, though, the phone just fails. It's a manufacturing issue. We know it. Samsung knows it. The thing is; Samsung can't keep selling you phones if they don't die.

さんによる

Freezing would work on some cases but it is not a permanent fix. When solder joints become dry with the time you get poor connection underneath these components. However freezing is a temporary fix. Once the phone gets warmer when working for several hour this issue may return. Best thing to do is reball the memory chip or apply some heat to it using a solder gun with some flux on the top. This will make a better repair. Please make sure you are good with soldering and not to apply excess heat over the memory chip and components around it. Watch some YouTube videos before you attempt on repairing unless you know what you are doing!!! Good luck ?

BEFORE YOU BUY A NEW PHONE READ THIS. I just got this problem, and decided to use my usual techniques, such as turning it off and on again. I took out the battery, figuring maybe its in the wrong way, and the next thing I know, when i put it back the proper way, I hear a vibration and see the charging symbol. Please try this before you throw your phone out. I don't want people wasting their money

I have a Samsung Note 4 and I am having the same issues you all are having. My phone will just shut down and I am unable to reboot it again. I have tried soft resets, safe mode, an app that I read about that will keep your phone from crashing (Wakelock), also the freezer. The freezer for 20 min or more without the battery actually will allow my phone to reboot. But over the course of a couple of weeks the time running starting getting shorter and shorter. I went from 4 days running to 30 seconds before crashing and not rebooting..back to the freezer it went. I tried running it without my SD Memory Card, I deleted apps, eventually I just saved all my data and did a factory reset. Now my phone was like out the box new. I didn’t add any apps to it. It was okay for a couple of days and then died again. Back in the freezer it went. It was down for 4 days before I could get it back on. This time I contacted Verizon for a software upgrade. They couldn’t push me an update but sent me link to do it myself. I know my software was up to date but I felt as if it was corrupted (reason: lagging, crashing, running hot). They sent me a link to download the software Repair Assistant https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/... more info and embedded link. I had previously backed up all my phone data not knowing that the software repair assistant would do it for you. It will save your data and load it back upon completing the OS upgrade. This upgrade is done via your USB cable not over the air. My phone is running like its brand new. N0 lagging, no crashing, and I am enjoying all my apps once again. I know it may seem hopeless but you can save your Note 4. Good luck. Date Aug 2, 2018
