3.5mm jack plug socket

I want to connect my Turtle Beach headset microphone (2.5mm stereo jack plug), to my new XB One controller's 3.5mm socket.

I suspect a 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo jack converter will work But, I cannot get a straight answer from MS.

I would like to know what the pin assignments are for this socket. Is it 3 pole stereo? 4 pole, (as in some of the compatibility notes on the support website).

A circuit diagram would be great if anyone can tell me where I can see one.
