Faulty third party wire has broken my MacBook - no power

Okay so, I bought an external disk drive off Amazon. Upon plugging it into my macbook the whole thing just shut off and had no power whatsoever. After researching the problem people said the wire must have caused a surge in my macbook and they suggested unclipping the battery and clipping it back. I did this and my macbook had power again - but only when plugged in. Now when I turned it on the battery just wasn't recognised and had a cross through it. A couple of hours ago i was watching tv on my mac with it plugged in, left the room and when I came back there was no power to the mac again. Tried unclipping the battery again and no luck. It's completely dead except the charger light just comes on a solid green. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

My first guess would be a new battery. It's possible that the surge fried your battery, which is good as opposed to cooking your logic board. I'd say buy a battery and see if that works, if it doesn't you can always return it.

Thank you, I will definitely try a new battery first. Any idea why it was working fine on mains power for a while but now has no power at all?

The battery might have been on it's last leg. Was the laptop powered with the main adapter when the surge happened? Electricity surges go everywhere they can, as fast as they can. It's also possible, though improbable if you're using a genuine OEM charger, the surge fried the adapter.

No the mains adapter wasn't plugged in and the macbook was working perfectly whilst plugged in for a few days but now has lost all power, and it is a genuine charger too.

Welp then my best guess would be a battery. :-/
