DIY lcd replacement help

My 816 was cracked and I was gonna change the screens eventually but the top half of my screen is black with multicolored bars, and the bottom is misty and not it's just white. There is black inky looking blobs on one of the cracks, so I know I need a new LCD. The thing is, I'm really big on "DIY's " and I would like to to it myself. Had anyone ever changed lcds themself or have any pointers please??? Anything is acceptable
