Default keyboard doesn't have emoji button

I have had my S4 since the end of August 2014. I really want to be able to use emojis yet I can't seem to be able to use them through Samsung's default keyboard.

I've read other online sources saying to hold down the mic key beside the space bar and a happy face will show up beside the other input methods (I.e Google voice) however it doesn't show up on mine. I'm running 4.4.2.

I really like the Samsung default keyboard style and I don't want to download other keyboards like Google keyboard.

Any ideas why my phone is acting like this and how to fix it?
