Image corruption at certain luma levels on Sony KDL40X2000U TV?

I have a Sony KDL40X2000U Television with intermittent image corruption on this 2006 LCD model. Typically a few minutes after switched on and often recovers normal operation after perhaps 20 minutes. Corruption appears as noisy 'contours' in certain luminance levels, both lighter and darker ones.

Is this likely to be edge connector issues as the contacts are not as young as they used to be, or progressive component failure?

Sounds more like a capacitor issue. Check to see if you have some bulging, leaking on the caps going on.
