TouchID works when screen is OPEN, but not when screen is CLOSED.

I just performed a screen replacement on an iPhone 5s. I swapped over the original home button and TouchID in order to keep the functionality. I did not tear any cables and everything seated appropriately.

However, when the screen is OPEN, meaning, before I snap it back into place, TouchID works perfectly. Once I close the screen to the phone, snap it back into place, TouchID no longer works. I have opened the phone 3 more times and re-seated the connector. Each time the behavior is the same. TouchID works, but once I close the phone it no longer works and the phone does not even see the sensor.

Anyone know why or what I could be doing wrong?
