It's actually very simple. I was trying to fix a similar problem on my pair, after doing a complete tear down, figuring it out as i went, i figured it out. Simply twist the ear pad on the right ear cup off, then remove the three small Phillips screws. After that you have direct access to the battery and can unplug, and replace at will

Could you please give a more accurate description? and possibly images? I tried to twist it off but nothing happened and I didn't want to use too much force.

さんによる

How to twist it? Clockwise or counterclockwise?

I tried in both direction with some pressure but not too much because I can't feel any movement/feedback between the parts and I don't wanto to damage it. I have also difficulty to understand where to put the fingers/hands to achieve the better results with the lowest damage risk.

Thank you so much. I was about to discard my headphones because the specs says built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery and my thoughts were it's irreplaceable.

Hey folks,

I was looking to upgrade the battery on my Elite Gold and came across this thread. I thought I would share what I did with you. It just so happened that I started this because I wanted to upgrade the battery in the PS4 controller. I bought a 2000mah battery from http://www.adafruit.com/product/2011. I used this in my PS4 controller and then took my PS4 controller battery and used that to upgrade my Elite Gold headset with amazing results. I did this last night so I can't say for sure what the battery life will be but it's definitely better from my anecdotal observations. To use the controller battery in the headset, you have to pry off the outer case like in the picture. Be careful not to damage the tiny circuit-board. This actually fits perfectly in the headset once it's out. I put some double sided tape on the back before installing it into the headset. Worked like a charm. By doing this I triple the battery capacity of the Headset. The battery is a couple of years old so it probably doesn't hold the same charge anymore but it's better for sure. Hope this helps someone.

Hey Joe. Thank you for sharing your experience. Will you tell us how the battery holds up in the controller as well as in the headset after a couple days use? I'm curious if the life extension continues to hold & how the new batteries behave under extended use. Thanks again Joe!

さんによる

Battery life has been FANTASTIC so far. I gamed for around 8-10 hours this weekend and the battery meter on the headset and controller only moved 1 bar. I know that's not an exact science but it gives a clear indication of increased battery life. Usually the controller would have needed to be plugged in or charged and the headset would be on it's last leg.

Hey Joe! Thank you for taking the time to post your findings. I was in the process of ordering a 3.7v 2000mah battery from Adafruit at $12 but shipping was another $9 so I decided to try shopping around. On Amazon I found the following:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WW09...

For $12.99 & free shipping, you get two batteries at the same specs you'd indicated. I ended up ordering 2 which got me 4 batteries for the same price I was about to pay for 2 at Adafruit. I will update once the batteries arrive & I've done the swap out. The listing page on amazon states they may not ship til after Christmas. Thank you again for posting your findings. I am excited to try this out for myself & hope my results are similar.

さんによる

Hey digitaldaydreamer, have you had a chance to try the new battery? I read the reviews on Amazon and people are not very happy with that battery.

さんによる

Hey Ivan. They have yet to arrive. I can tell you they're coming from China which was a surprise to me as I don't recall that being listed anywhere on the item page. Technically I only have 2 controllers so even if 2 end up bad, as long as 2 hold their charge I'll be happy. I will definitely update with my findings one the batteries arrive. Happy Holidays!

What size(mAh) is the battery inside of them Cody, and is there a bigger replacement for them that you know of?

Sorry if I'm using the wrong numbers here, I'm new to this. But the battery reads:3.7V(3.7V)-570 mAh/2.1Wh

If that's the wrong thing, under that it reads (Typ.610mAh)

As far as larger replacements go, the plug seems fairly standard, and as long as you are ok with using some form of adhesive to hold it in place, as the clips wouldn't fit for a larger battery, you should be fine. All that's in there is a small circuit board that seems to only function to hold the battery, and distribute power... As well as the audio driver of course... But that's obvious.

Note: when removing the battery, there are two small clips on the ends of the battery. Also, on the top there will be a small adhesive pad. Don't be afraid to apply pressure when removing.

Also, in reply to the previous question, sorry i can't do pics at the moment, but no worries, just twist as if unscrewing something, it will take some force, but it won't hurt the headset.

さんによる

Can the ear pad be put back in place without adhesive?

さんによる

Yep, it's just a little twist and can be put back the same way

さんによる

Hey Cody. I attempted to install a 3.7v 2500mAh lithium-ion battery which had the same standard plug as the factory battery in the gold headset. Any idea why the headset wouldn't charge with that larger capacity battery? Have you replaced any of these batteries yourself & if so, which ones are you using? Thanks!

Thanks for your answer pal, actually I tried and is more easy than what looks like, I was becoming crazy to remove the earpad but is so easy like the partner say, just twist it and is open so fast, I try to replace the battery but looks like nothing work, still not working.

Anyway thank you so much for the help

Thanks for this! Sounds easy enough. Looks like I will have to replace the battery soon, it's not holding the charge like it used to. I maybe get 2 1/2 hours out of this - at best.

UPDATE: Hey everyone! So the batteries came on Saturday. Unfortunately I was too busy to mess with them till late Sunday night. Please bear in mind while reading this that I've yet to give the batteries a thorough testing. At the time of writing this I've used one of new batteries for just over 2.5 hours. I will update again once I've had a chance to go through a major gaming session 4-6 hours or more.

Initially unpacking I was impressed the batteries each came with a USB charging cable for the controller & a small microfiber cloth to serve as a work area for the change out.

The first battery would not hold a charge at all. The light on the controller just flashes in quick succession & refuses to operate once unplugged.

The second batteries black wire isn't connected to the battery, just kind of free floating. I will be attempting to connect this & in my next update will tell whether or not the battery works.

Battery 3 worked flawlessly & it's the one currently in my controller. When I saw it worked I began the switch out of the original controller battery to my gold wireless headset. I plugged in both to charge & after about 20 minutes the lights went out, signifying they were ready for use. I proceeded to use the new battery controller & headset for 2.5 hours with no issues, or bar drop on the battery status screen for either unit. Under normal operation with factory batteries, 2.5 hours would be 1-2 bars left on both.

I have not opened battery 4. I will mention it in my update as well.

Also, I feel it note worthy to mention that with the first two batteries being problematic, I wrote the supplier to alert them to this. If I receive a response I'll include that also in the next update.

In close I would say that while the Amazon batteries are a gamble, I got 4 of them for the price of 1 from Adafruit. The previous order I placed with Adafruit prior to ordering these batteries off Amazon resulted in a battery which wouldn't charge. I returned the battery to adafruit & got a refund minus my shipping & handling (which they overcharge for). No matter which way you choose to go, this seems like a worthwhile upgrade for anyone feeling adventurous enough to delve into their electronics. I will update as soon as I can though with Christmas this week, I'll probably be after that but before the new year.

UPDATE 2: Hello everyone, yet again.. In writing this update to let you all know how the battery situation played out. If you've read the first update you know I had issues with the first two of the four batteries I ordered. (The first want holding a charge & the second had the black cable not connected to the battery.) I contacted the seller through Amazon. They apologized & are shipping replacements at their cost. While the replacements haven't arrived yet, I decided to try soldering the black wire to battery #2 mysel. Not only was it successful but it works like it should & is now powering my second controller. With that success I decided to tear open battery #1 to see if I could determine what was causing it to not charge. Right away it was plainly visible that this battery also didn't have its black wire soldered to a connection point. I soldered it in place & tested.. Works great too!! I haven't opened battery #4 as 3 out of 4 are working perfectly. I contacted the company to tell them they don't need to send replacements but they'd already shipped.

So, in summary, while the batteries may need minor soldering to connect a lead, the 3 tested all hold a charge as advertised & are working flawlessly in the DS4's as replacements. If anyone has any questions please feel free to post them here or email me directly at: gamerdenied@gmail.com

Thank you for this info! My controllers are fine but the stock battery on the Gold Wireless Headset has always been terrible and even drains significantly when turned off, so I'm so happy that there is solution that will allow me to extend the life of the headset when using it wirelessly. I have purchased the amazon battery noted above (sadly we Canadians only get one battery per order instead of two), and I plan to put it directly into the Gold headset. Hopefully I won't get a dud, but at least it seems as though the company will send me a new one if that is the case.

さんによる

Just wanted to follow up and say that I got in touch with Digitaldaydreamer (gamerdenied@gmail.com) for some extra input and I was successful not only in replacing my DS4's original battery with the new one but also removing the original DS4 battery from it's casing and putting it in my Gold Wireless Headset (as advised by both Digitaldaydreamer and Joe Rock above). The second feat was not so easy as I had to take extra care to pry open the casing with a small screwdriver while making sure not puncture the battery inside, but in the end I got it done. Both the headset and controller last noticeably longer before they require charging, the headset especially. Given the risk and difficulty of removing the controller battery from the casing, I can't wholeheartedly recommend doing this unless you feel that you know what you are doing. But in my case, it was worth it, and my headset is much more reliable than it was before. Thanks to both Digitaldaydreamer and Joe Rock for sharing their experiences (and very helpful photos from Joe Rock)!

Glad everything worked out for you. It's a little daunting taking everything apart but well worth it in the end.

Hi,

I had the same problem but when I looked into changing the batteries I discovered that rather doing that, it would work out just as cheap to buy a mid range set of BT headphones every two years. Like everyone here, I would rather change the battery but when its not financially viable I baulk at the logic.
