My optical drive doesn't read discs, and I need it to burn DVDs I've created in iDVD. An external DVD drive will not work with creating an iDVD. Can I do something to my drive (take it out and clean it?) Just asking for tips before I have to purchase a replacement drive.

I took a disk drive out of a 2007 Mac and after applying some silicone spray and unlocking it from the position it was stuck in-it does continue to work, but I have to push the disk in with a coffee stirrer-it comes out OK. Might as well replace-my opinion is all DVD drives scratch the disk a bit, though they should not-lots of DVD burners on the E-butt or I'M a Zon-just need to check the connection cable to your G4
