Can the Accutone Gemini Headphone plug be dismantled?

I am having problem with the cord near the plug. A wire must have been torn already as the NEXT TRACK button doesn't work but works when I bend it near the plug. I want to know how to open the plug so I can fix it. I tried twisting it but it won't budge. I want to try pulling it but the force might damage it more. Is there a way to fix it?
