Overheating and wondering if its the fan?

My macbook pro from one day to another started being slow literally and i started to notice it would get alittle too toasty. I did the hardware test nothing, then the disk utilities and nothing i deleted programs that might be taking up too much space and nothing... today I had the computer on but it was closed and it started getting a little too hot so i just turned it off.

Running AHT once with heat issues is often not enough to identify the problem. Run it 2-3x in succession.

Also with intensive CPU/GPU use you will generate heat and the fans will kick in. If you changed what you are doing (what apps running) you might be the natural cause of this change in behavior.

More details will help us help you. (What OS you're using, what Apps your using) There are some apps that "runway" with the processor and cause overheating.

I would look at all the above before opening a machine of this age.

Are the fans on at all? Unibody MacBooks are bound to get very hot so just plug it in and place it on a cool hard and flat surface.
