Left analog stick always moving up

I'm curious if anyone has repaired analog sticks that don't feel stuck but appear to be triggering a directional sensor.

My hardly used Wii U Pro controller doesn't exhibit any physical problems but while playing a game it is stuck in the up position and won't recover from this.

My 4 year old uses it the majority of the time but I haven't witnessed him abusing it any more than normal usage.

Being that these are $50 a pop I'd love to repair the problem myself rather than replace it so any advice would be appreciated and I'll be sure to document my progress.

I did an exploratory surgery on this controller and found nothing visibly wrong. I wiggled the analog switch in all positions and it seemed fine. After re-assembling it and reconnecting it to the Wii U I found that the stuck issue had been fixed. So I guess it just needed some air. :/
