Vent

Your dryer vent pipe should be made of aluminum. The white vinyl duct that was common several years ago no longer meets most building codes, because if your dryer ignites it, a fire may start in your home.

Check the entire length of the vent pipe for lint build-up at least once a year--or more often if the dryer gets a lot of use.

Note… Remove the lint from the duct--don't just push it back into the dryer or let it clog any part of the vent.

You can tackle lint build-up in the duct with our Vent Brush for Cleaning 4" Round Dryer Vent accessory. It's available in 10 foot and 20 foot lengths.

Interior of dryer cabinet

The lint produced by clothes tumbling in a dryer is normally trapped by the lint filter. However, some lint invariably escapes and accumulates on the inside of the dryer cabinet. At least once a year, check the inside of the cabinet, and clean it if necessary. Do this more frequently if the dryer is used heavily.

Lint filter

Check and clean the lint filter after every drying cycle. If the lint filter has any rips or tears, replace it. If the filter gets clogged by fabric softener residue or any other residue, you can easily clean it with a soft-bristle brush and a little detergent.

Area under lint filter

You can also clean the chute, duct, or area that the lint filter fits into. If necessary, use a vacuum cleaner to reach into the duct and clean out any lint.

Note… If the lint build-up is severe, it's important to disassemble the dryer and clean out the lint more thoroughly. This is often a job for a qualified appliance repair technician, because there's a risk of injuring yourself or damaging the machine.

Maytag/whirlpool has a design flaw in that the topload lint filter does not completely cover the exhaust duct at the bottom of the assembly and allows lint to bypass the lint screen in this gap. This will allow premature lint exhaust line plugging and a fire hazard. As far as I know, there is no solution and Maytag/ Whirlpool will not address the problem

WOT??? I purchased this drier, and at the end of week #1, the mesh at the end of the drier vent pipe, was blocked with lint. I removed the lint and a week later, it had accumulated again, to the point of preventing proper exhaust and drying capability. I had always wondered how so much lint got past the lint trap, and now I know - there is a fundamental design error. What a shame. The rest of the machine is good, but the lint trap has let the whole thing down. Come on Maytag, make America great again, and give us a lint trap that works...

How many other's are experiencing this. I know I am. We have only had the dryer a few months and it happens constantly.

I have had several service calls, tests, parts replaced, had the vent cleaned by a professional- nothing works. I have called maytag and even had an online chat- they say the only thing I can do is have another service call. I have already spent over $500 on service calls. They also said they have NO reports of this being a problem.

We had the same problem with the top mount lint trap. When the machine was brand new I had an entirely new exhaust vent run installed that was 1/2 the distance of the original. The dryer exhaust blows like crazy so there is no clog in the line. But! From day one, the lint trap captured essentially zero lint, and the animal screen on the end of the exhaust run was full of lint. All we can do is keep the animal screen at end of the vent pipe clean, which we do religiously because a lot of lint is exhausted out the exhaust vent. Definitely a design flaw with the Maytag dryer.

I had the exact same problem. From day one! Just have to keep the end of the exhaust run clear@Philip Thompson

Thanks Steve. I will take a look at that. Maybe I can add some stick on foam insulation down there.

Curious to know if this works for you.

@jessica vasquez do you have the same issues? Can you check to see if the screen reaches to the bottom? Maybe post some images of that with an Answer on here. I wonder if we can come up with something to modify their sloppy design.

I have been completely aggravated and frustrated by this horiffic misdesign ever since we bought our Maytag dryer. It's an extreme fire hazard. I cannot believe that Maytag has not fixed this problem. I cannot believe that some brilliant engineer hasn't come up with a better part that would completely replace the Maytag crap trap that doesn't work at all.

Just now we took the dryer apart to replace the drive belt and the rollers and the machine was literally stuffed full of lint. It was awful.

I have vacuumed into the duct as far as I possibly could, many times, but still every few weeks the vent cover outside is one hundred percent plugged. So how much lint do you suppose is in the exhaust tubing??

Blah.

If you take a flashlight and look inside the drier at the back, where the exhaust exits, you will see that the top load lint filter doesnt go all the way down. So lint takes the path of least resistance and totally bypasses the lint screen. Design problem

Very poor design on Maytag MED3500FWO front load dryer. Lint trap does hardly anything. Lint builds up on the motor impeller and makes it go off balance and gets very noisey. Had repairman here during the 1st year of purchase because of noise. He found lint build up. We clean the screen after every use and was the scree at least once every two weeks. Does not solve the problem. Have called Maytag. Sent pictures of lint build up. They provided no help. Said call a repairman at my expense. I have had the dryer apart 3 times, since the first service call, and removed the lint. I am about to do it again.

I got same problem will be the fourth time warranty repair man comes today supposed to be total dryer replacement but they changed warranty companies so probably have to start over again. This will be the last Maytag product I will ever buy

さんによる

On my post I ment that I wash the lint screen at least every 2 weeks. After the repairman's first visit, Maytag said I would have to pay for service call. Good luck with your warranty. Myextended warranty did not work. I'm going to check out what Steve posted.

The problem with these dryers, is due to a design flaw lint gets by the filter building up in the lint shute then inside the dryer. I use a long dryer lint removal brush in the shute about every other week, and have removed the whole assembly for a more thorough cleaning. There is no fix for this and it's very frustrating. Unfortunately, a lot of major brands use the same system. If you can find one that doesn't use the same system, it's probably worth buying if you are tired of the constant cleaning.

I bought a Maytag dryer, MED4500MWO, September 2023, a couple of months ago. Lint collects inside the dryer on the door, on the back wall of dryer, in the drum… and a little on the very bottom of the lint screen. I’ve had two repairman here. One changed the lint filter/screen, that did nothing. The other told me to have the dryer vent cleaned out which I did yet the problem remains! I appreciate any suggestions and input.
