I'm stuck there as well. Just the charging screen WITHOUT getting charged up nor turning on. No apple logo. I reopened it and checked all the flex cables, cleaned dock port, all in good shape and gravy. No tears, in fact, the lock/power button works fine. The battery may be shot. The contact on the board look great though...

Looks like power flex cable shorted. Thats why power button doesnt work. Its always pressed in. That shows battery image without charging. Most possible screwdriver damaged power flex cable. It shorted to metal frame. Or there is an adhesive layer on mainboard which power flex soldered. That solder pads may touch to metal plate and short the power button.
In that case it always show battery image even without charge. That drains your battery and never charge enough.
Remove metal cover first to see if it comes back to normal. If not try to replace power flex cable.
