Display lost colours and resolution after reassembly

So I changed the HD and doubled the RAM on my old iMac.

After reassembling everything works just fine except for the display wich now has lost most colours but blue, and looks blurred due to failing vertical lines.

I DID have some problems attaching the cable to the lcd when reassembling, so I opened up the !^@# thing once again, made sure the connection looks fine, covered it with scotch tape to make i stay .. and same problem.

My guess is it is a connection problem. lots of white lines, all horizontal.

Any ideas of what to do? Or should I just buy a new display data cable?

Tried replacing the new ram with the old. Same problem.

Looking at your display, it definitely looks like a problem with the connection. What was the problem you had re-attaching it?

My problem re-attaching:

I disassembled the connection on the LCD. Photo here: https://twitter.com/solvsteen/status/296...

When reconnecting the "middle thing" - a metal piece with handles on each side - fell off. I found it difficult to attach it again, very little room to work in, but eventually I managed.

I never touched the other end of the cable, the one attached with 2 screws.

As a work around try connecting to an external monitor. If you have the same issues you've done damage to more than just the connector. If using the external monitor won't work for you an electronics repair shop might be able to repair your connector (working on logic boards is advanced DIY - it requires special tools, solder and lots & lots of practice).
