Doing this on my 2008 Silverado. Yuuuup big pai. In the ass. Dash is coming out. Grrrrrrr

Could you not just fish the new wire through as you pull the old? I have no idea if that could ever work and I know this is a very old question and reply but to the next person that comes along they might could try that instead of having to pull the whole dash

Not an easy job to say the least:"

Radio Antenna Replacement

Set the air flow control to the instrument panel (IP) vent position if equipped with air conditioning (A/C).

Disable the SIR system. Remove the SRS or AIRBAG fuse.

Apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from moving.

Move the shift lever all the way down (if the transmission is automatic).

Tilt the steering wheel to the full down position.

Remove the IP cluster trim plate bezel

Pull gently rearward on the retaining clips holding the bezel to the instrument panel (IP) assembly.

Remove the bezel.

Remove the end panels. Left is shown, right is similar.

Remove the right side air outlets. (They will pop out with a flat-blade tool)

Block Image

Remove the assist handle by depressing the release tabs accessed through the air outlet duct holes.

Remove the windshield pillar garnish (pillar) moldings.

Remove the bolts retaining the pad to IP assembly

Block Image

Disconnect the electrical connector (1) to the ambient light sensor on the underside of the trim pad.

Remove the trim pad from the assembly.

Remove the antenna mast.

Remove the outboard section of the cowl vent grille panel.

Remove the secondary air injection pump, if equipped.

Remove the passenger side battery, if equipped.

Remove the 3 bolts.

Remove the cable grommet from the body.

Disconnect the antenna cable from the extension cable.

Tie a long wire to the antenna cable.

From outside of the vehicle, pull the antenna base and cable assembly until the wire can be easily accessible.

Ensure part of the wire is still in the vehicle

Remove the wire from the antenna cable.

Installation Procedure

1. From outside the vehicle, tie the wire to the new antenna cable and base assembly.

2. From inside the vehicle, pull on the long wire until the cable can be connected and grommet seated.

3. Install the cable grommet to the body.

4. Re-install parts in reverse order"

Hope this helps, good luck.

There's a much easier way to do this. Take out the glove box, the wire running from the stereo disconnects at a point from the wire running through the firewall.

I did the same thing with my antenna and I'm preparing to replace. Check out this video for more https://youtu.be/3cLTYm5yMPI
