Ethernet WAN port dead, can it be replaced?

I've searched all over this website and numerous other sites and realized I am probably stuck with a dead WAN port. My TC won't work as a router as it's not picking up any signal from another router or modem. For testing purposes only, after having set up my Time Capsule in bridge mode all ports work, except for the WAN port. So I've come to the conclusion that my WAN port is in fact, dead. Some sites suggest it might be related to electrical surges or lightning but none mention a possibility of fixing this. Is it worth it or can I just forget about it?

A storm zapped a tree behind my apartment, and took out my cable modem. Of course, my time capsule was connected to this router. I didn't want to believe it but my TC WAN port won't see anything, and it probably got zapped since being connected to my modem. I tried the suggestions below and I have a green light again. Sorry to see my router functions go, but at least it looks like I'll be able to use TC again. Thanks folks!

Using more than one router on a network is not simple, as by default home routers are set up as assumed to be the only router on a network. The "second router" will only be able to function as a wireless access point instead of a router.

You say "it's not picking up a signal" - you first have to connect and set up the TC directly through the Ethernet cable to your computer and configure it for working with more than one router. To avoid signal interference between two routers in a home, try setting the first router to use channel 1 or 6 and the second to use channel 11. Home wireless routers can also be connected to each other via Ethernet cable the same as wired routers. ''

Do not use the WAN port as this will not work!

To set it up as an access point via cable disable DHCP and use 1 of the 3 network ports to connect to the main router.

Turn off NAT and the DHCP server on the TC so that the router in the Time Capsule transparently passes everything through to your "main" router which should be directly connected to your modem.

by switching TC to bridge mode, it de-activates the WAN port and it functions as a normal ethernet port like the others. if you want to re-energise the functionality of the WAN port, simply switch off bridge-mode. then it accepts the incoming broadband and routes through the other 3 ethernet points.
