iPhone 4: Ear speaker on iPhone 4 suddenly very low, near mute.

My iPhone 4 is a 16 GB, about a half-year old.

I have replaced the front screen. Everything went smoothly, and the new screen worked like a charm. But after three weeks or so, the ear speaker suddenly became extremely low—at normal volume levels, it's impossible to detect any sound.

So now I'm stuck talking with the speaker on or using a headset. Which is not too cool...

I have done the works, as far as I know, for the software. I've done a hard restart and used iTunes to reset the phone to original settings.

None of these attempts have worked, though. I´m not that technically advanced when it comes to electronics. So I am just wondering if any of you could give any tips how I should fix it.

Is it a hardware error or a software problem? The speaker works. I can turn it up and down with the volume buttons, but it's all extremely low—essentially useless. Is there some software error that may have dialed the whole volume setting down somehow?

It's probably a hardware error, and my Apple guarantee is no longer valid, as I have changed the front screen. Should I try to replace the ear speaker myself, or should admit defeat and pay a pro to do it?

I hope you guys have some good ideas!

Thanks.

iPhone 5: iPhone 5 will not swipe to unlock but digitizer works?

Hey everyone,

So I've fixed plenty of iPhones myself but I ran into a pretty unique problem recently. To be clear, I'm working with an AT&T iPhone 5 that won't swipe to unlock the phone. At this point you're probably thinking its a faulty digitizer which definitely could be the issue but there's more.

Unfortunately, the iPhone's lock button isn't working either so the assisted touch button is currently displayed on the screen. I only bring this point up because I am able to freely move this button to any location on the screen with no problems. In other words, I know the digitizer and LCD are working but I still cannot swipe to unlock the phone. Also, I'm unable to swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen to open the airplane/wifi menu or swipe downwards to display the calendar/appointments menu.

Has anyone else encountered this?! If so, any information would help! I hope the description of my issue was clear but let me know if I'm missing anything. Thanks!

iPhone 5: iPhone battery not charging after DIY battery replacement. Why?

I recently had some issues with my jailbroken iphone 5 where the battery just wouldn't last. The percentage would read 40% and just die. It eventually got to the point that the phone would die at 100%. A fully charged battery but still turn off after 5 minutes of use.

Yesterday i changed the battery myself using an ifixit guide and success was had!

Or so i thought! The phone turned on but only had 12% battery. No big deal so i plugged it in to the computer. At this point the phone restarted itself and then showed 9% battery. I left it plugged in for awhile and noticed that the battery still showed a charge of 9%. I rebooted it and it then showed a 6% charge. I left it plugged in over night and it still only shows a 6% charge.

When plugged in, the phone claims it is charging and does chime at initial plug in. Could i have done something wrong when connecting the new battery? Has anyone else experienced this before? Please help!

P.S. warranty is obviously void now and my update isnt due till november. :/

UPDATE: Apple Store rejected the phone (like I knew they would). Took it to a iPhone repair kiosk at my local mall and they put a new battery into it and it was fine. I did everything correctly in my fix but the replacement battery I received in the mail was faulty. Thanks for your answers everyone!

iPhone 6 Plus: stuck in dfu with itunes error 4005

Ok so nearly two weeks ago i plugged my phone into the headphone jack of some old stereo system my uncle has, i was trying to set it up and in the process the phone fell out of my hand, i was sitting down so it was about a 2-3 foot drop. i picked the phone up and it was on the boot up screen (white background and Black apple), it was taking abnormally long to boot up so i held the home and power button, which i now know was a TERRIBLE idea. fast forward to the present and the phone is stuck in DFU mode, when i try to restore it the screen turns on with a black background and white apple and then iTunes gets stuck on "waiting for iPhone" and gives me the error 4005. I've tried changing the USB cable, changing the USB port, using a different windows PC and even a mac, all with the latest version of iTunes and no it was not a host file thing. I've tried every software solution that my research has brought me and the problem still persists so that leads me to believe it's a hardware issue so i'm wondering what part is it that i have to replace to fix it, i'm a bit of a tinkerer and i'd rather avoid getting price gouged at a repair shop. Sorry if the post was too much of a read but i figured it'd be best to provide all the details. Thank you in advance for any and all help

iPhone 4: Power and Lock Button Stuck, Requires Heavy Pressure

This is a first-run iPhone 4 that's in otherwise perfect condition.

Last night, the power and lock button became extremely difficult to push. I assume that there is some debris or that the button itself no longer presses (an issue I've noticed with Mid-2009/2010 MacBook trackpads as well).

I do not know whether or not there is a physical button that is being pressed, part IF182-004-1 shows a button with a level that I assume is actually pressing a real button.

I have removed the back of my iPhone, but I'd like some more information before I remove the logic board and void the warranty. The replacement guides don't have any information about this button.

iPhone 6: Why does my phone turn off when unplugged from charger?

I have an iPhone 6 that has been repaired once (change of a broken screen and some chip).

It's stuck on 1%and doesn't go any higher.

When I unplug the charger it turns off even if it's been left all night.

It keeps switching on and off.

As long as it's in the charger it works fine.

It doesn't switch on if I plug it in to my computer it keeps showing the apple logo then a black screen on and on.

I at least wanted to back it up in case of a reset.

Sometimes when it switches on it gives 100% but then shuts down quickly even if plugged in.

I get the sign that it's charging but it doesn't increase.

iPhone 5s: Why would the home button work, but not Touch ID?

I own a small Apple repair business, and have done a large number of iPhone screen repairs... everything from the iPhone 3G up to the iPhone 5S. I have only done a handful of 5S repairs thus far though, and haven't had any issues until now. The problem I'm having with a customer's phone is with Touch ID. Now, I'm fully aware that the home button flex cable that ships with a 5S is unique to that particular phone, and cannot be replaced while still preserving Touch ID functionality. Repairs don't generally make me nervous anymore, but 5S repairs do because of this....so, I'm extremely careful.

With this particular 5S, I successfully replaced the screen, only to discover that the part was faulty (defective digitizer). However, I know that Touch ID was functioning after this first screen was installed because I did test. I then installed another new part, everything went well and the part tested fine this time. I did not specifically test Touch ID functionality, but I do know that the home button was working. I've always figured that if the home button is working, then Touch ID is going to function.

The customer called me today to let me know that Touch ID is indeed not functioning at all, but the home button is. This seems very strange to me, and the only thing I can think of is that I didn't get the home button flex cable connector properly seated when I put everything back together. I will have a chance to open the phone back up tomorrow, but in the mean time I was trying to do a little research on potential causes for this as well as potential fixes. Of course, my hope is that removing the bracket, disconnecting, and reconnecting the flex cable will do the trick. Of course, unfortunately the simple solution isn't always the answer.

Numerous searches on here, Google, and other websites have turned up nothing with regards to this problem. Everything I can find relates to the unique relationship between the original home button cable and the motherboard, but that's it. I did find one person that had Touch ID functionality, but no home button functionality. Similar but still different enough to not be too helpful.

So...any ideas out there? Has anyone else come across this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!

iPhone X: Face ID not working after water exposure

I waded into some water (depth maybe 30cm above iPhone level), incorrectly assuming my phone would be fine. The phone shut off, and I just let it sit and dry out for the next few days. After turning it back on, the phone got very hot so I turned it off again.

After a week, it no longer got hot but got an occasional green vertical line. Again, phone off, and after half a week no more issues.

All functions of the phone now work, but FaceID does not work anymore. I took it to the Apple store, and whilst they said that all it would take would be to reseat the camera unit (or something along those lines), they would not work on it due to evidence of water damage.

Any insight or advice would be appreciated, if its an easy fix id like to get in there and sort it out! After all, FaceID is half the reason I love the new phone.
