Boom 2 Not Producing Any Sound
The speaker is turned on but is not producing any sound.
Low Speaker Volume
Check if the volume on the speaker is too low to hear by pressing the “+” button multiple times
Low Device Volume
Check to see if the volume on your bluetooth device is turned off. If unsure, try turning up the volume via the volume buttons on the side of the device or the volume slider on the display of the device.
Bluetooth Connection
Insure that your device is properly connected to the speaker by checking your Bluetooth Pairing.
Speaker Will Not Turn On
After pressing the power button for the proper amount of time, the speaker does not turn on properly.
Not Properly Charged
When attempting to turn on the speaker, if the power button blinks red or says ‘Critical Battery’, this indicates the battery is not charged enough to operate. Plug the speaker in using the given cable and power brick to charge most efficiently, approximately 3-4 hours. Plugging into a laptop or similar device will also charge the speaker, but will charge at a severely reduced rate.
Battery Requires Replacement
Battery’s have a lifespan, if the battery is not holding a charge (i.e. states it is fully charged and lasts no where near the 13-15 hours operating time). Replacement of the battery may be required, refer to our battery replacement guide.
Water Damage
Although the speaker boasts an IPX7 Waterproof rating, manufacturing errors happen. If the speaker is unresponsive to charging and battery replacement, then the circuits in the speaker could be fried. Refer to our motherboard and D-ring replacement guides.
Speaker Will Not Charge
The Speaker is plugged in, but will not charge.
Loose Connection
If your cable is poorly connected to the charging adapter or device it will not charge. Additionally check if the charging adapter is properly connected to the wall socket. Disconnect and reconnect everything to ensure proper connection.
Charging Cable or Adapter Needs Replacing
Charging adapters and cables can fail at times. To check if they have failed test them on other micro usb powered devices. Alternatively, test other similarly rated charging adapters and cables with the Boom 2. Replacement cables and adapters can be purchased directly from Ultimate Ears.
Battery Needs Replacing
Batteries are consumable and eventually cease to store a charge. If none of the other solutions resolved your charging issue the problem may be the battery. Refer to our battery replacement guide.
Speaker is Not Pairing With Device
The UE Boom 2 is not connecting to my device via Bluetooth, the speaker is not working properly, and/or my speaker is not playing music.
Incorrect Bluetooth Pairing Settings on Your Device
Check and make sure that Bluetooth pairing is enabled on the device you are trying to pair to the speaker. Select the UE Boom 2 from the list of devices, and make sure the UE Boom 2 is ready to be paired with by pressing the Bluetooth button on the speaker (see next problem).
UE Boom 2 is not ready to pair with Your Device
Make sure your speaker is in pairing mode by pressing and holding the Bluetooth pairing button on your speaker above the power button until the speaker makes a sound. The Bluetooth LED light will begin to blink once this has happened.
Device is not within Range of the Speaker
The distance of your device to the speaker could be the reason it is not connecting. Try moving the device you are trying to connect closer to the speaker and attempt to connect.
Factory Reset Needed
If all else fails, try resetting the speaker to its factory default settings by following these steps:
- Hold down the “volume down” and “power” button at the same time until you hear a sound. The UE Boom 2 will then turn off.
- Turn the speaker back on and attempt to pair it with your device again..
UE Boom 2 Phone App Not Functioning
The application is not connecting with the speaker and/or it keeps crashing.
The App is Not Up to Date
Make sure the version of the UE Boom 2 App running on your device is the current version. Go to the App Store/Google Play Store on your device and check for any updates. If there is an update, install it, and reattempt to connect the app to your speaker.
App Keeps Crashing At Launch
If two devices are connected to the speaker at once, launching the app may cause it to crash. To fix this, disconnect both devices paired with your speaker and only reconnect the one you desire to play music from.
“Double-Up” Feature Not Working
Two Boom speakers will not play music at the same time.
Bluetooth is Disabled
The UE “Double-Up” feature requires bluetooth connections between the device and the two speakers. Make sure bluetooth is enabled on all devices and that they are in range of each other.
Speakers Are Not Running the Same Firmware
Pairing issues may be caused by differences in firmware. To ensure the same firmware, connect the speakers to your smartphone and install the latest firmware by going to the Boom app, tapping on “More”, checking for updates and downloading them.
“Double-Up” Not working With Boom App
If you cannot get “Double-Up” to work with the app, follow these steps to manually double-up:
- Bluetooth pair your device to the first speaker.
- Turn on the second speaker.
- Press the + volume button and Bluetooth button at the same time on the first speaker. (A tone should confirm that it is ready.)
- Press the Bluetooth button twice on the second speaker.
- A final tone should confirm that it is trying to double-up, and that it has succeeded.

Same here, the music falters at a certain volume.
When it’s at 10% its fine music plays nut higher then 20% and you get bits and pieces.
RLI Edit -
same here. Did you find a solution?

I’ve been using this with my phone and pc, both of which produced great sound. All of a sudden, when I switched from my phone to my pc today as the source, the music quality get terrible. When I use my phone, the speaker goes back to sounding great. Nothing I have done has helped. Any ideas what’s causing this?
