Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 S-Pen Troubleshooting
The following is a troubleshooting guide to some of the most commonly occurring problems on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 S-Pen.
Screen is Frozen and Unresponsive
If screen is not working, apps crash or freeze, or touchscreen is unresponsive.
Soft Reset
If the tablet is not responding try holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds, allowing the tablet to restart normally. This is called a soft reset.
Hard Reset
If after a soft reset the tablet is not responsive, a hard reset, or a factory reset should be used. A factory reset takes the tablet back to its original settings, erasing all data. This is only to be done after other attempts to restart fail.
1. Make sure the device is powered off. Press and hold down the “Home” and "Volume Up” button while powering on the the device by pressing the “Power” button.
2. The recovery screen will appear, using the volume buttons choose the option to “wipe/data factory reset”. Press “Power” to select.
3. Highlight the “Yes-delete all user data” and use the “Power” button to select.
4. After the reset is completed, select the “Reboot System Now” option and choose this to restart the tablet. The hard reset is now complete.
Device Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi
If you are attempting to access the internet from your tablet but cannot connect to your Wi-Fi or tablet shows no internet connectivity.
Wi-Fi Enabled in Settings
Check in your tablet’s “Settings” menu by going to Settings >> Connections to ensure that Wi-Fi connection is enabled.
Internet Router Issue
If your tablet is still unable to connect to your Wi-Fi after ensuring that it is activated within the settings menu, your internet router may not be sending out a signal and may need to be reset. Turn your internet router off, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it on again. Wait for your router to fully resume functioning and attempt to access the internet via your tablet again. If it appears that your router is not broadcasting an internet signal (refer to your individual router’s signal indicator, this is often an indicator light) check with your internet provider for a possible outage in your area.
Soft Reset
If your tablet is still unable to connect to the internet despite your router broadcasting a signal, a soft reset of your tablet may be required. Hold the power button of your tablet down for 10-15 seconds and your tablet will restart. Once the screen goes black release the power button and wait 10 seconds. Press and hold the power button again until device turns back on and attempt to access the internet.
Unable to Pair Bluetooth Device
If attempts to pair a Bluetooth device fail.
Devices Aren’t Close Enough
Make sure the two devices are close enough to one another (5ft-10ft).
Bluetooth is Enabled on Device and Tablet
Make sure Bluetooth is “enabled” on your peripheral device. This ensures that your device will be recognized by the tablet, so it can be paired. Then make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on your tablet by going to the tablet's settings and turn the Bluetooth option to "on". Alternatively, swipe down from your tablet's home screen and ensure that the Bluetooth button is highlighted indicating that it is "on".
Restart Both Devices and Re-pair
Power off the devices and then power them on by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds, allowing the tablet to restart normally. Once tablet and peripheral device have restarted, attempt to re-pair devices. Please see individual device instructions for pairing.
Audio Won't Stop Playing
If sounds are emitting from the tablet from an unknown source.
App running in the background
The most common source to is an app running in the background that you are not aware of. The solution to this is to close all apps in the background, to do so press the application menu button on the tablet, and then hold and swipe right on each open app.
Turn all sounds off
An update may cause lag in the speakers so turning the sound on and off again may solve the issue. To do so from the home screen go to the App Icon>> Settings >> System >> Accessibility >> Hearing >>then turn off all sounds and then turn them back on.
Soft Reset
If the sound continues, then a soft reset may fix the problem. To restart simply power off your device by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds, allowing the tablet to restart normally.
Voice Control
If your tablet is not responding to voice input.
Configure Correctly
Make sure the voice input switch is set to on within the device "Settings". Enable this by navigating to Settings >> General Management >> Language & Input. Select Google Keyboard/Gboard >> Preferences and then turn the Voice Input Key Switch to "on."
Alternate Configuration
In addition, ensure that Google Voice is enabled by navigating to Settings >> General Management >> Language & Input >> Keyboards. Enable the Virtual Keyboard and ensure Google Voice Typing is checked.
