Acer Aspire V5-571P-6815 Troubleshooting Page
This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the Acer Aspire V5-571P-6815.
Computer shuts down by itself
Try propping the laptop up so that it hovers a few inches above the surface it is resting on. Leave it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Otherwise, use a vacuum cleaner extension hose to suck debris out or, use a can of pressurized air to clean any dust or dirt from the vents and airways. You can also open the back of the device and look through the ventilation holes to check if the dust has accumulated so much that it must be cleaned out manually with a rag, Q-tip, toothpick, etc.
Unplug your charging cord and remove the battery. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds. Put the power cord and battery back in. Check to see if the issue persists. If this does not work, the battery may need replacing. Refer to the battery replacement guide.
Laptop Not Charging
Computer does not charge even while plugged in
Loose Electrical Connection
Ensure that the laptop has a sound electrical connection to the power source (wall outlet). Recheck that the power cable is properly plugged into both the laptop and the power socket. A solid connection will result in a light on the keyboard and a power symbol will appear on the taskbar of the operating system on your desktop. If you have ensured that the cable is properly plugged into both the laptop and the wall outlet, it may be helpful to check that wall outlet is working by either checking the main circuit breaker or trying a different outlet.
Grime and dirt can collect in the battery compartment. Remove the battery from the computer. Use a lint-free cloth or Q-tips with rubbing alcohol to clean the shiny metal terminals. Reinstall the battery and attempt to charge the computer.
Battery Not Properly Connected
Turn over the computer and ensure the battery is properly placed in its compartment. It should not wiggle or fall loosely. The battery lock should hold it securely in place. If the lock mechanism is not working properly because it is broken, strong tape such as electrical tape can be used to secure it in place until it can be replaced.
Faulty Power Adapter
Power adapters, or charging cables, can go bad over time and no longer carry a charge to the computer’s battery. Check for the light on the power adapter or on the keyboard to ensure the adapter is working. If an indicator light is not lit, then the adapter may need replacing.
A battery can lose the ability to hold power over time. If the above options did not work, consider replacing the battery. Refer to the battery replacement guide.
Bad Charging Port
If the charging light does not turn on when the AC Adapter is plugged into the laptop, or if the light flickers on and off, you may have a bad charging port or loose wire. Refer to the charging port replacement guide.
BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is Out of Date
CAUTION: Incorrectly updating the system BIOS could render a computer inoperable, so this step should only be used if all other options have not been successful. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet via the AC adapter. Search “System Information” in search box from the Start menu. Click “BIOS Version/Date” and write down the information. Go to this website and scroll down to the “Select Your Device” portion. Make the following selections: Category > Ultra-thin, Series > Aspire, Model > Aspire V5-571P. Under “BIOS/Firmware,” find the version of BIOS that is newer than the version currently installed on your computer. Download. Double-click “BIOS.bat” and follow the installation prompts on-screen.
Keyboard Not Working
Computer does not respond when you type on the keyboard
Computer Needs Reboot
The easiest fix is to reboot the laptop completely. First, press and hold down the power button on the laptop for 15 seconds until the power is completely off. Then unplug the power cable from the laptop. Take out the battery. Leave the laptop unplugged and the battery out for several seconds. Then plug the power cable into the laptop and place the battery back into the laptop. Power on the laptop and see if this fixes the keyboard issue.
Enabled Filter Keys Interference
The problem may be the filter key feature which makes your keyboard ignore repeated keystrokes. First click on the start menu (the Windows logo) on the home screen. Then go to the Control Panel and click "Ease of Access". Under the "Ease of Access" tab select "Keyboard." Disable the filter key function by switching off the filter key option. Return back to the home screen and see if your keyboard works properly.
Keyboard Drivers Are Out of Date
If your keyboard still is not working, it could be that you are using the wrong keyboard driver or it is out of date. To check if your keyboard has the correct driver and is up to date use the “Driver Easy” tool. This program will automatically check if you have the correct driver by recognizing your system and finding the correct drivers. To download "Driver Easy" click this link. Once you download the software, step by step instructions are provided.
You can try to fix the hardware issues on your own or take it to an expert for evaluation. The keyboard may not be receiving proper amounts of pressure. To resolve this issue, start by removing the cover of the laptop. Then use a screwdriver to adjust the screws inside of the laptop. Replace the cover and see if the keys are working. If not, you can contact Acer Support online or you can take it to a repair store. Refer to the keyboard replacement guide.
Laptop Freezing Up
I can see an image on my screen but computer screen is frozen and does not respond OR the touchscreen does not sense touch
Running too many programs at once can overload the memory on your specific model. Running out of memory will cause slowdowns in performance resulting in a frozen screen. The solution is to close unused software windows by clicking the X symbol in the top-left corner of each. If the software is unresponsive, try to close it through the Task Manager. Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete and selecting the Task Manager option. If the laptop is still not responding, then a hard reset will be needed.
Try lifting the laptop up to allow air flow at the bottom of the device. Place the bottom of the laptop upside down for 5 to 10 minutes. Otherwise, it will need a hard reset by holding the power button for 15 seconds until the device shuts off.
If malicious software (viruses, trojans, spyware, etc.) is causing the problem, try closing programs by clicking the X symbol in the top-left corner of the software window or through the Task Manager. Open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete and selecting the Task Manager option. If the device is running more than one program, turn them off one by one to determine which one is causing the freezing problem. Once you find which program is causing the problem, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Right click on the problematic program > Click "Uninstall."
Screen Not Working
Screen is completely black and does not respond
Unplug power cord and remove battery. Using a different computer download the extract BIOS exe file from the Acer support website. Make the following selections: Category > Ultra-thin, Series > Aspire, Model > Aspire V5-571P. Right click and choose extract on the exe file, a third party program may be required, and move the extracted files to an empty USB drive. Plug in the USB to the laptop then hold ESC + Fn keys while starting up. The screen should light up during this start up.
Try plugging in an external monitor. If picture appears on the external monitor then the laptop’s screen is broken and needs to be replaced. Refer to the screen replacement guide.
