Your laptop shuts off abruptly while in use.
Improper Airflow to Fan
Having inadequate airflow to the fan can cause the laptop to run hot. Removing pieces of paper or other objects underneath the fan can allow for better airflow. Additionally, putting the laptop on an elevated surface can also allow for better airflow. Dust buildup can also cause the laptop to overheat by preventing the exchange of heat off heat sinks. Spraying the fan area with compressed air can remedy this issue.
Fan Not Working
If the fan is not working correctly or at all, the laptop will not be able to run correctly and will overheat. Either a connection to fan has be loose and must be reconnected or the fan must be replaced. In order to see if it’s running, while the computer is on, try to feel for airflow near the vents and listen for the fan whirring.
Laptop Battery Dies Quickly
Your Acer Aspire 7741z-4643 won't stay powered on long after charging.
In order to remediate this issue, replace any old/defected batteries. Old and defective batteries will not run as well as a new battery would. As the laptop is used, the battery becomes old.
Your charger may not be working, in which case, try charging your laptop for about 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes, check and see if your laptop will turn on. If does not, you will have to replace your charger.
Battery Inserted Improperly
Check that your battery is properly plugged into the slot, making sure to lock it in with both buttons (on the left hand side and the bottom right of the battery). You may be missing a battery, make sure that there is one placed in the slot underneath the laptop.
Lack of Contact to the Terminals
There may be debris/corrosion on the terminals. Cleaning the terminals with contact cleaner will allow for them to properly work.
Laptop is Running Slowly
Your laptop is running slower than it should be.
Run a virus scan such as Windows Defender or Norton Antivirus. Viruses and other malicious software can use your computer’s resources, leaving less for your normal computer tasks. Also, stop going onto “sketchy” websites, this can cause viruses.
Running Too Many Programs
Have fewer programs open at a time. Having too many programs open at once can overwhelm your computer, so it is best to close any save any documents or programs you have open in the background and are not using.
Needs More RAM

Laptop Clicks and Won't Start
Pressing the power button doesn't start the computer and an audible click is heard.
Hard Drive is Damaged
A damaged hard drive doesn’t function properly, or may not function at all. A hard drive that is scratched may not boot up correctly, with the possibility of not booting up at all. Not being able to run the necessary steps for start up is a sign of a defective hard drive. Additionally a hard drive that has been physically damaged and makes a whirring or clicking noise will usually be too damaged to use. A damaged hard drive must be replaced.

Sounds from your computer is unclear due to static.
Headphone Jack is Dirty
The headphone jack in your laptop could have lint or dust inside. Find a compressed air duster (these can be found at your local hardware store or on Amazon) to blow any dust and lint that could have accumulated in the headphone jack. It is also possible that your headphones/listening devices are not properly plugged in. If they are not, that could possibly be the reason why you are hearing static through your audio.
Damaged Sound Card
The sound card is allows your laptop to play, record, and process sound. If it is damaged, you will have to replace it.
CD-Player Not Functioning
Your laptop will not read CDs.
The Disk is Not Readable
Sometimes a disc that has been scratched too many times will no longer be readable. This is not an issue with the player itself, but is an issue with the disc. This can be alleviated by getting a new disc without any scratches or damage to it. Another issue is that the computer hasn’t been updated recently and therefore will no have the correct drivers for the reader. Running the latest updates for your computer will prevent this issue.
Keyboard Not Working
Your laptop keyboard doesn't respond to keystrokes.
Drivers are Not Updated
Having updated drivers can cause issues with the keyboard being recognized. Updating your drivers will ensure there are no issues.
Filter Keys is On
Filter keys is a setting on the computer that causes brief and repeated keystrokes to not be recognized. This can cause the computer to stop recognizing your typing. Turning off filter keys in settings will stop this from happening.
Keyboard is Not Seated Properly
The keyboard can not be properly seated which would cause the pressure from typing to be insufficient. Removing the cover of the laptop and adjusting the screws inside that hold the keyboard will allow for it seat properly.
Screen Displays Black Only
The laptop screen shows nothing while turned on.
Replace any old or defective batteries. Newer batteries will run a lot more quickly and smoothly.
The “Black Screen of Death” can be linked to malware or certain components of your laptop overheating. Turn your computer off and then unplug the charger and remove the battery. Put the battery and charger back in, and then turn your computer back on.
