The three R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, are a great start. Greenpeace added 6 more: Repair, Remake, Refuse, Remember, Respect, and Restore. iFixit helps moves us toward many of these R's so that we can live a more sustainable life.
I've repaired several iPods and iPhones thanks to this site. Thanks to all who had contributed to this community.
Thanks for the guide! 2020 and the 8 yo machine seems to be working after replacing the battery with a “Simple” manufactured battery (iFixit did not have one in stock at the time). I was able to pry the old battery with a plastic pry tool and about an hour to clean off all the old adhesive with acetone. Took a while but the adhesive gives way with gentle but firm pressure.
Have you tried just using double sided tape? It’s not too hard to get back in there and you don’t have to disassemble the speakers to get to the battery.
I’m having the same problem. Will update once/if I figure it out. Otherwise, thanks for the suggestion using assistive touch.
When replacing the new port, create a beveled fold as seen in the original. Otherwise the connector won’t lie perfectly flat pushing up the speaker and causing the screen to be elevated.
Thanks iFixit! This saved me hours at the genius bar waiting to fix my apple watch. I managed to replace my Mickey Mouse face with the one displayed here in 30 minutes. Slight problem...all the parts stopped moving, so it displays the time correctly twice daily.
