School

University of California, Davis

Major

Computer Science.

Coming from the Bay Area, I was always surrounded by people who were interested in computers. I guess their interest rubbed off on me because I ended up choosing to pursue a degree in computer science. However, I’ve come to realize through my experiences in classes and the workplace that computer science is much more than just tech support. It’s about problem-solving and analyzing situations, and ultimately, building things that change the world.

Aspirations

Block Image

My dream job would probably be a professional snowboarder. I love snowboarding, but realistically, I think being a software engineer at a mid-size company would be a realistic dream job.

Skills

I’m proficient in many different languages such as Python, Javascript, and C++ to name a few. Some of the frameworks I’ve worked with are React and Prisma.

I’ve worked in fast-paced environments, and I have experience designing and developing industry-standard code.

Projects/accomplishments

I would say my greatest accomplishment was the used bike I repaired to working condition. It cost me 300 dollars for the bike, and when I got it, there were a couple of issues. The entire process of diagnosing, researching, and repairing was incredibly rewarding.

Coming into this project I really didn’t know much about cycling or repairs. Looking at repair guides on YouTube and checking social forums, I slowly gained a better understanding of why my bike had issues and eventually narrowed it down to an old outer gear that had been worn down through years of use, in addition to a misaligned derailleur that needed to be realigned and tuned.

The process of learning and completing the entire project was very enjoyable, and this got me into cycling repairs.

I’ve also had experience repairing computers, whether it’s a small fix like replacing a part, or an in-depth analysis of what exactly is wrong with the computer. Through these experiences, I’ve come to realize that I enjoy working through problems. Even though I may not have the best understanding coming into the problem, I certainly am willing to take the time and effort to learn the process of building and repairing

Repair experience

Besides bikes and computers, I’ve also done some plumbing. The sink in my house had a garbage disposal that needed to be removed, so I got to work looking at guides on YouTube and checking various online forums.

Once I gathered my information, I got the parts and set off working. It was a relatively smooth process with just a few hiccups here and there. Nowadays, YouTube and online guides make it easy for people to learn how to do their own fixes, and I was able to remove the garbage disposal and replace the plumbing under the sink.

Groups/memberships

Currently, I’m a part of CodeLab, a software design agency at UC Davis.

Hobbies

In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, snowboarding, and hiking. I also recently started cooking and baking.

How does this project relate to you?

Looking at the repair guides for bike inner tubes on iFixit, a lot of them are for mountain bikes. There aren’t any guides for road bikes with thinner wheels/inner tubes and tubes with Presta valves.

As I mentioned in previous sections, bike repairs are exciting for me, and I enjoy the entire process. I want to share my love for cycling with others and get people back on the road ASAP if they ever have a leaky or popped inner tube.

Any other fun facts you’d like to add?

Pineapple is great on pizza. No questions asked, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
