Hello there! I’m a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ where I study Aerospace Engineering on the Astronautics track. I hope to work for NASA or SpaceX when I graduate for the future exploration and colonization of space.
I compete in Desert Racing with MRAN District 35 in the Two Stroke Novice class and soon to be in the Two Stroke Amateur class. I regularly work on and fix my YZ-250 2 stroke which is the bike that I race on. This consists of basic mechanical skills and knowledge of how the bike preforms and operates. Some of my repair and maintain experience includes: fixing and replacing fork seals and springs, front and rear tire replacement and installation of various systems including MOOSE and Tubliss systems, installation of all possible protective gear for the bike like skid plates, all guards, and radiator braces as well as many others, installation of lights systems on various bikes, installation of new coolant hoses and placement, installing a new top end which consists of a new piston , rings, pin, and clips as well as new gaskets for the cylinder, cleaning and repairing the power band, replacing chain and sprockets, cleaning and revamping the carburetor, installation of new fuel lines and plastics, tuning in the suspension in the field and out of the field, replacing the flywheel, installation of new clutch plates, replacing clutch and throttle cables, and replacing the timing chain as well as checking the valves on some four stroke motors. I know how to maintain and operate my bike with precise execution.
A project that I tackled was the complete rebuild of a YZ 125 and I had to strip the bike down to the frame and repair everything. This is the inside of the motor in which I had to replace a broken shift fork and missing kick starter clip. This is a project that I am very proud and enjoyed thoroughly.
Other skills and repair experience includes the maintenance of Ford trucks including f-150s and Rangers. I do regular oil changes with filter and replacements of front and rear discs as well as front wheel bearings. I also replace shocks, fuel filters, ABS lines, calipers and pads, drum brakes, coolant hoses, heater core hoses, alternator belt, spark plugs and wires, and fuel pump replacements.
I just took off the start line in this picture and went on to complete a 52 mile desert race in which I took first place in my class even though halfway through the race I lost my rear brake.
Racing teaches the rider how to act quickly in certain scenarios that require perfect placement and execution. When put into a stressful and time sensitive situation, I can use my skills that I learned from racing to attack the problem and find a solution that works while staying calm and focused.
I am also a Klim Ambassador which is a major company in the off-roading community and I also work for an engineering company call Smart Growth Engineering as a CAD Technician.
I am now excited to grow my work experience with the iFixit Team and help achieve there goal of more repairs and less waste. I also want to enhance my skills in the art of technical communication.
