first iPhone repair for me… I was trembling when I switched it back on. I was worried I didn’t put the screen and front camera connectors in place properly (it’s hard). But it went all well! Thanks for the guide, but I think it’d be really good to add the steps about the square metal thingy between the camera and the ring.
To Jochen: if you follow the instructions: you do have to disassemble the camera because the ring is welded onto the frame from the inside. On a iPhone 6 it is only glued.
But you can change the ring without changing the camera.
One additional point on this step: DO NOT USE PLIERS TO INSTALL THE NEW RING. There is a sort of coating on the ring glass that gets immediately damaged by contact to anything metallic.
Also, you really have to use very little glue otherwise it will spill out. Use a toothpick to apply the glue.
I concur with the other comments.
I’ve managed to carefully remove the foam square without destroying it completely by unsticking it with the pointy edge of a spludger.
Removing the welded metal square underneath was more difficult:
1. I pulled gently on the 4 tips with pliers, until the 4 edges were visibly separated from the frame.
2. I inserted a flat screwdriver under the metal square and very gently but firmly pushed it forward and turning it slightly to cut through the welds. I think that a very tiny pointy knife would do as well. I managed to cut through approx 75% of the welds
3. I had to pull the square apart from the frame using pliers. As I managed to cut through most of the welds before, I did not break the metal square, though it is severly deformed. I put it back in shape using pliers.
Once the metal square is out, it is very easy to push the camera ring out using something hard. Myself I used a flat screwdriver.
