Did you ever figure this out? I have an X555LN that won’t recognize the hard drive and boots right to the BIOS, but the hard drive is fine in a USB enclosure. Friend said the laptop blue screened and then wouldn’t turn on. Thinking we might have similar problems!
You're a hero.
This is fantastic advice. I used a combination of USB and display port plugs to ensure proper alignment and help keep the logic board steady while i screwed it back in. Thank you!!
I'm having trouble finding out what kind of SSD the 2013 27" iMac uses, as well as where to buy one. Trying to add one to an iMac that was configured without one when shipped. I read that this model still has the port available, and I'd like to make a fusion drive. Can anyone give me a good source for buying one?
I'm confused...are you saying Arctic Silver 5 should not be used for replacing the thermal compound on the iMac CPU? Or are you correcting a mistake from a comment from earlier. Why would you use thermal compound on the GPU or memory?
This step wasn't quite the end for me. To actually replace the hard drive, you have to remove the stickers and pry the drive out of its chassis. It's not hard at all, but certainly worth mentioning.
Also important to note that this piece only goes in one way, so take note of its orientation, and don't force it if it isn't sliding back in.
Can this board be upgraded? Or simply replaced with the identical model?
Does anyone know if the display from a 2011 27" iMac is compatible with a 2010 27" iMac? The 2011 in my office died, but the 2010 still works fine, albeit with color trouble due to a malfunctioning display.
