    • It's here! It's here! Whoopee!

    • Contents of the box:

    • Nintendo DSi

    • Operation Manual

    • Quick Start Guide

    • AC Adapter

    • Oooh pretty colors!

    • The manual is larger in every dimension than the DSi except for thickness. Many of the pages are in color... That's probably why the DSi costs so much more than its forebear.

  3. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 3、 2の画像 1 Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 3、 2の画像 2
    • A side by side comparison of the Nintendo DS Lite (left) and the Nintendo DSi (right).

    • The DSi has a new skin: a matte-black (almost dark gray) color that feels much rougher than the DS Lite. The roughness allows for better grip of the system, as well as improved scratch resistance.

    • The DSi is 3 mm thinner than the DS Lite, while its length and width increase by 4 mm and 1 mm, respectively.

    • The DSi comes with 3.25" LCD panels, a full 0.25" larger than the previous model's 3" panels.

  4. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 4、 2の画像 1 Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 4、 2の画像 2
    • Two Phillips screws prevent access to the battery. They are easily dealt with using our custom-made screwdriver.

    • A quick flick of the spudger (or fingernail) dislocates the battery from its housing.

  5. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 5、 1の画像 1
    • There are a total of seven screws that hold the lower case of the DSi together:

    • Three are immediately visible without removing any plug or cover.

    • Two plugs near the top of the unit have to be removed to reveal two screws.

    • Removal of the battery compartment reveals two additional screws that need to be removed.

What kind of screwdriver are you using to unscrew these 7 screws ? I've tried but I didn't move an inch

    lyondell - 返信

How do I remove the plugs?

    Albert Einsteine - 返信

I used the broad end of the spudger to try and get them out. It worked fine on the first one, but the second one split in half and I had to scrape out the rest. There's adhesive on the bottom of each plug.

    krystal -

What do the other two screws that aren’t circled above the battery do? Are they for the screen? Should they be tampered with at all? Are they even screws?

    • And just like that, the case comes open.

    • An orange connector joins the cases together. Care should be taken when opening the DSi to ensure this connector is not damaged in the process.

    Hallo,

I'm stuck on Step 6. The case is stuck on the edge under the bottom screen. I'm afraid to pull too hard, because everything can break. ;)

    Can you help me?

    Xandecs - 返信

Wow, that happened to me too. I had to use a tiny screw to unjam the bottom. nothing looked broken, but when I put my Dsi back together, the screens got fuzzy.

    Teto -

"And just like that, the case comes open."

Not quite. Something holds the bottom half of the case together.

Not quite. Something holds the bottom half of the case together.

You need a very small flathead screwdriver or a strong thumbnail to work the edges apart. Come around from the edge furthest "in" which you can first enter said flathead. Pry gently! and careful about the orange connector. Go slow! Good luck!

    lindsay powers - 返信

What does that connector do? I opened this unit up to clean the R&L triggers and now my top screen fades and is all discolored.

I though it was cuz i messed up that connector when putting it back together.

    Chris Delgado - 返信

There are three tabs on the case under the screen. You can see where they go in in the image (they look like 3 rectangles). I used a small plastic pry tool and pulled the case away from the screen a little bit and they came apart. You could try using an old credit/store card/thin plastic. It came away clean after that.

    • A comparison between the old and the new. There are definite differences between the DS Lite (left) and DSi (right).

    • The DSi uses a smaller 840mAh rechargeable battery (right) compared to 1000mAh for the DS Lite (left). The difference in size is proportionate to the difference in capacity. The original Nintendo DS shipped with an 850mAh battery.

  8. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 8、 1の画像 1
    • Removing the battery PCB is a pretty straightforward procedure:

    • Disconnect three connectors.

    • Unscrew five Phillips screws.

How do I take the second connector out?

    Albert Einsteine - 返信

    Boiiiii is this still active???

    Albert Einsteine - 返信

    Help. Hhhhhhhhhhhhh

    Albert Einsteine - 返信

How do I do this please help

    Albert Einsteine - 返信

OOF nvm I just found out what a taper down is

    Albert Einsteine - 返信

What do I do? I got the whole connector off at the bottom, so do I attach it with electrical tape (I don’t have a saudering iron)

    Jamal Zahr - 返信

Oops took that off. Yikes. I noticed the device doesn't have a black flapper. :l

    • The Wi-Fi board is held in place via one large connector. A quick wedge-and-twist action of the spudger releases it from the main board.

    • Another flick of the spudger removes the Wi-Fi board's connector wire.

  10. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 10、 2の画像 1 Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 10、 2の画像 2
    • The main board comes off almost as easily as the battery PCB:

    • Four Phillips screws need to be removed.

    • Six connectors need to be disconnected prior to removal: five on the visible side, and one on the other side.

  11. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 11、 1の画像 1

    • Four black plastic covers need to be removed to reveal the Phillips screws underneath.

    • Removing the four Phillips screws allows access to the top display.

  13. Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 13、 2の画像 1 Nintendo DSi Teardown: 手順 13、 2の画像 2
    • The upper half with outer case removed.

    • The antenna board for Wireless LAN is mounted in the upper right corner of the chasis.

    • The ribbon cables for the top display and cameras are coiled and routed through the hinge between case halves. We'll go ahead and add that to the list of parts we want to watch a robot assemble.

    • The thin orange wire seen in the second photo is for the microphone. Little DJs everywhere will drool over a new feature allowing users to distort the pitch and speed of music during playback.

    It just slides out >__________>

It took me 15 minutes to figure this out

    • The DSi has two VGA CMOS digital cameras (0.3 megapixels); one on the internal hinge pointed towards the user and the other in the outer shell.

Now to find a way to hard mod the camera to a better one. 2 mpx anyone?

    • Eight Phillips screws secure the battery compartment and the stylus tray/SD/SDHC expansion slot to the case.

    • The DSi has an integrated SD/SDHC expansion slot. You can now use a normal SD card for the playback of AAC audio files and external storage of pictures or downloaded software. Can anyone say homebrew apps?

Wow I never would have guessed that

Hello, how do you close the system after opening it?

When I opened my dsi to clean the L and R buttons, I removed the case from the top, opposite of what you did. I dont know how to reconnect that small orange ribbon! <:(

Teto - 返信

I would like to contribute to iFixit by doing a 3DS XL Teardown. (2012), but i do not have the console.

Santi12008 - 返信

You should be careful when removing the L button assembly and moving a case. There’s a small square pocket in the case which houses a small square nut which is where the top screw from the battery lid fastens to. The black piece that keeps the L shoulder button assembly in place also holds this nut. Once you remove it, the nut is free to come out and can be easily lost.

First time disassembling my DSi and now my console doesn’t turn on. upon plugging the charger in, the orange led lights up then turns off.

Hey there, what you might've done is dislodge your connector.

What you want to do in order to fix it is open it up again, and look for an orange cable that connects the top to the bottom, if it is disconnected you have found your problem, if it is only partially connected, push it in until you hear a click. Hope this helps.

Cool Guy -

I have a DSi that does that too. It's caused by a blown fuse, apparently F1/F2 can cause it? The easiest repair is to just bridge the points together. I'm still not skilled enough to do that i'm 15 lmao
